20G/10G Nano Tank [Newbie]

The return pump brings the water up
From the sump? Does gravity bring it down from the tank first right?
Also, are the separate filter sections in the sump? If so, how is it divided up?

normally skimmer section on one end, refugium on the other end and a return section in the middle. Yes gravity does feed the sump and the pump (returns) the h20. see the pic I posted above. that one only had 2 sections ,no refugium.

If the return section is in the middle, what path does the water take since it has to go through refugium and skimmer? And the refugium houses algae or something else which helps clean water?

The water coming from the tank via gravity is feed in to the skimmer and the refugium.you just split the line one each way. Yes the refugium house a macro algae to remove excess nutrients from the water. nitrates and phosphates mainly

Thanks for all the help so far! I gotta get up early to do a paper so I need rest, but I'll be back on tomorrow. One more thing though, if the water is split, then doesn't that mean half of it is not getting skimmed?

Most don't split the h20 equally only a small portion goes to the refugium say 20% of your return water around 4 gph old man got get some sleep too. You welcome. talk tomorrow

Ok. That makes sense. Where does one get the algae, from the same store I get live rock and stuff?

Possibly they may have it . If you were to join the arc there are lots of members with free stuff to other members including algae and corals or will sell you some if not a member or give it to you any way. It's just members usuallt get first dibs.

I was thinking about joining, but I am going to north Carolina in a month...and obviously I wouldn't be able to make it to meetings and stuff. Haha

I understand there may be a local club there as well ,but no worries everyone here will help also.

thank you. Everyone had been a great help so far and I have met some really cool, smart people! Thanks for the help so far
