I am thinking about a 240 tank. I have found one in Florida that seams like a very good deal. It has been sitting for 3 years empty. Is there any worries about this tank? Does it need resealed since it has sat empty for 3 years?

Id redo the silicon regardless personally. Id leak tested a used tank and still had them go...

Once you have encountered the seals going and all the water coming out, you ll never trust old silicon again.

The silicone doesn't really decay but over time of being out of water it can get this worn brittle look. If you see fresh silicone on a new tank at the store then look at a 10 year old tank that has not been filled with water majority of the time you can kinda tell. I would advice to reseal it just to be on the safe side 240g of water can make for a bad mess of anything

I agree with the reseal. I had a 150 I got used and about 2 years later BOOOM!!! every drop of water including livestock went crashing into my living room. Major clean up, major headache. I went with acrylic ever since and never looked back.

you just have to be very careful, I've made mines for 6 months now with no scratches on it. Just get the right cleaning tools for acrylic tanks and you'll be fine. Stay away from the sand bed though, thats where it will kill you if you get too close.

Thats when I have to go in there with a scrubber and do it by hand instead of the mag. The crappy part of that is that in a pretty short guy so I have to get a chair and when I stick my arm in the tank to get to the bottom, my whole army is under water up to my shoulder.

Great info here I have never resealed a Tank knock on wood no problems. I can now say after reading this I will reseal every tank I buy used.
