Hey so...... I have had my BioCube up and running since June os this year, and I am having to replace the Filter cartridges ever week if not every 4 days or so, and at $5 a filter, that's costly. :wow2::wow2:Want to know from all you guys if there is an alternate filtration to put in place of the $5 a pop cartridges....... Any input would be greatly appreciated!! :):):)

Thanks!

buy some filter floss & cut to size over using those cartridges. The little bit of carbon in it is not doing you much good.

I know I know..... that's why I need ideas on alternate filtration for this tank, not wanting to do a sump.......

hit that sucker with the garden hose, rinse it off with ro d I, and stick it back in there..lol

I filled my first section with LR, and used filter floss and then purigen in the second chamber and of coarse the pump in the third. Kept up with my water changes and never had a problem.

For what its worth I have a redsea 130d, same size as yours, and I run no media. Just an upgraded skimmer (tunze 9002) and water changes does it. I siphon detrius out when I do my water changes. I will throw in a bag of carbon when I think about it but I dont have any in right now. I will also throw in a piece of filter floss and blow all the crap off the rocks and let the floss catch alot of it. Then I remove it within a few hours of the water cycling around.

It's all different types of media, media meaning Filtration "Fillers"

Purigen effectively removes protein and other organic aquarium pollutants in the water....

Cheatos is the green macro algae and is a common plant that helps boost water purity. But it's and natural filtration for the water.

And Carbon is another type of media that is used to purify the water.....

Hope this helps.

1to 1 1/2 lbs per gallon is the usual going rate but the more the better I would say. I got about 40lbs in my 30

For my own benefit, I have read up extensively on fuges and for them to be applicable they need to at least be 1/3 the size of the tank. IMO a hob will not help to much but again this is just my perspective. If u decide to get a skimmer, check on the Hydor slim skim nano and see if the dimensions would work for u. I have read really good reviews on them but not sure if they will fit in a bc29. Just a though
