are 2 10w 50/50 lights on a 5 gallon tank adequate for any corals at all?

All sorts!

Many corals don't require light at all, many are low light.... Stay away from SpS and a few LPS and you'll be fine
No light
Suncoral
Duncan
Etc.

Low light
Mushroom
Xenia
Leather
Etc

thanks for the quick replies. i know basically nothing about keeping corals. i still have trouble with what sps and lps are.

and i'm guessing the ones that don't require lighting, do require supplemental feeding?

This time I have google to back me up, Duncan's are photosynthetic...

Study up before you go out and buy coral, no what each needs before you purchase. Also, because of the size of your tank, try to stay`away from impulse purchases, which is something with which we all struggle.

Supplemental feeding may or may not be required, just remember, it's a small tank, and supplemental feeding with tax the water quality.

Stay with mainly softies, and perhaps 1 low light LPS as a center piece

thanks, and would the same for larger tanks such as a 20 or even 55?

I have a 5 watt LED (3 RB 2 CW) over my 5.5g AIO and I can grow quite a few corals. The bulbs are not that much more than 2 of the 50/50 bulbs.

I bought it used from a member on here (PFCDeitz). I think he said he bought it new for $35. I could be wrong. You might want to check out some of his older posts where he has it mounted on his 10g.
