I'd put the sand in a bucket, stick a hose in it and forget about it for a while. Then go back and mix the sand up and repeat.

Rinsed all the sand out today, and even though i rinsed it like mad, my tank water that i have in there is all cloudy...I got my AW&I unit this morning and it is great...I am currently slowly making RODI water and the tank is almost halfway full. I will do a freshwater run of everything then mix up the salt hopefull tomorrow morning. Then i will wait till it all clears up and then add LR!!!

i wish our LFS were dedicated like that and would drill our tanks here that looks good. they give hate if you not purchasing one of their expensive setups

Wow that's kind of a bummer... luckily for us, Purereef is awesome and will give me great advice on products that i havent even bought from them

UPDATE:
Live rock is in the tank!!!!!!!!!! :yay::thumbs::yes::up:
I went to Purereef yesterday and picked up 25lbs of Totoka rock. I got alot of pieces for the money. Also Tony "Caliente" gave me a small rock with 2 green striped shrooms on it and 2 pieces of Xenia to start the tank. Yesterday, the Xenia closed up but then i realized that they were getting too much waterflow so i moved them, and they opened back up today! Also, the mushrooms Tony gave me are growing pretty nicely. Everything seems to be going great so far (knock on wood!).

Thanks everybody for all the help and advice! Ill start stocking the tank in about a week with my cleanup crew and the week after that,..........CORALS!!!!:yay:

UPDATE:
Well, its been about a week and a half since ive put LR in the tank and alot has changed. 2 days ago, I picked up 4 Blue/Green Chromis to help cycle the tank and give me something to look hat for the next few weeks (Thanks wharehouse aquarium). About 3 days ago, i started to notice a significant green/green hair algae bloom so i added a small cleanup crew from Marine Designs. Well, the cleanup crew has been hard at work, but they cant keep up with the algae that's growing, so i may need to start helping out. My Xenia and Mushroom that I put in are doing great. The mushrooms are about the same, but the xenia is really growing!! (I just hope it doesnt take over my tank!) The coralline algae is really starting to spread but the green algae is beating it so i need to start cutting back my lights to maybe 6 or 5 hrs a day until my cleanup crew can catch up. Here's some pics:

Big Update:
Well, it has been about two weeks since my cycle finally ended and everything is going great. I have added alot since my last update. My algae problem that I had is really starting to be under control (you can't really tell by the pics) and coralline algae is appearing all over the place. I have also added two young clownfish since my cycle finished. One is a Black and White false perc., and the other is a normal false perc. I got them both from Keen Reef. Hopefully, one of these days they will mate!. I also spotted a small group of Aiptasia the other day and headed over to Purereef to talk to them. Well, long story short, i ended up with a cleaner shrimp and Aiptasiax. My cleaner shrimp adds a ton of personality to my tank and looks awesome. Finally, yesterday i was down in the Chamblee area and stopped by Wharehouse Aquarium to look around. I ended up with a 5lb piece of rock covered in Coralline algae and random other things. I just found a Sea Urchin on it! Unfortunately, until most of my green algae is gone, Im not going to get any corals because i am afraid to leave the lights on too long and feed the algae. So maybe the middle of next week i will get a frag or a softie of some sort. Everything is going great so far for me!!!!! :yay::thumbs::):D

Thanks everybody for all the help! If it wasn't for you all my tank wouldn't be here right now!

Are you sure its not diatom's your seeing? It looks like it on the sand. Green Hair Algae is very long. You would really be able to see it well in pictures. Just trying to help you out a bit. Diatoms always come after a cycle. They will last for a while and cuc helps allot with it.
looks nice though man

I have had diatoms on the sand but on the rock, there is hair algae. Some of the rocks that i didnt take pictures of have really long hair algae and the other rocks that you can see have just normal green algae covering them. Im not sure if this is part of the diatom bloom but i really don't like it!

I would start by taking a water sample to a sponsor and let them do a full work up on it with some Salifert test kits. I would bet you have some no3 (nitrates) feeding it. I control hair algae with my Fiji Foxface. He picks nonstop at the rock. It can take over real fast. You want to find the cause. As far as lights go I never run over 8 hrs anyway. I don't see that as an issue. Most of the time there is something in the water that feeds it - P03 or N03 one of the two. Good test kit will show you this.

I have API test kits (Aquarium pharmaceuticals) and have heard these aren't that accurate. About 1 1/2 weeks ago just when this was starting, i had all my water tested by marine designs...Amm 0, Nitritite 0, Nitrate 10ppm, Phos. 0, so the only thing i can think of is light or nitrates. I also tested for nitrates yesterday and it read 5 ppm and phosphates 0, so i don't think that is a problem. I only have my lights on for about 3 hours a day so that is definately not a problem...my cuc is catching up and removing a good amount but they can't get it all...
do tangs eat this???...also ive heard that sea urchins are great at getting rid of algae...
Thanks

Well after 3 months, i have a large update...
First off, I got a candy cane coral right after my last update and im glad to say he's about to split for the first time...
Secondly, after that, i found my tiny tiny sea urchin that i bought on the purple rock, and it is at least 2 inches across!!!!... He has completely gotten rid of all algae in my tank, and he does a great job of cleaning
Third, I bought my first acropora from marine designs about a month ago, and he is showing good signs of growth...and hasn't bleached at all, so i assume im doing good.
Fourth, and my favorite...i got my last fish, a coral beauty angel from marine designs that is completely beautiful and big!... He is awesome. Also, i got a green bubble tip anenome...and for about 3 weeks he has been moving all around my tank, but is really deciding now between 2 spots and seems to be making his final decision. My dumb clowns have stopped hosting my monti cap, but are too stupid to realize there is an anenome in the tank for them...o well
Finally, last but not least, i got a second acro from Purereef abotu 1 and 1/2 weeks ago, and hes already showing signs of growth!... My tank seems to be doing great (knock on wood) and cant wait for more...
