This build is so exciting!!! I love seeing the progress and learning along with your students. The tank dimensions sound ideal! We are on Spring Break now, and it has been crazy busy up til now. I'll try to update my tank status soon. You and your kids can help me trouble shoot.

Hey, thanks for the kind comments everyone! I appreciate it.

These kids and I are having fun doing this build, but let me say that they have worked very hard all year. My philosophy is that we work hard and have fun. I do expect a lot from them and we typically work from bell to bell. I tell them there is no time to not do science and some of the things we do are actually from 7th grade curriculum. The cool thing is that I think these kids could handle anything I challenge them with. Their heads may hurt a little, but they always pull it off.

Ichthyoid... The compartment for the skimmer is 10X12.

Just thought I would finally post my previous threads so you could see my pics... I/we sure have learned a lot. There is so much I would do differently, but that is science for ya. Learn more from mistakes. I just hope that I can keep my living things happy. (except for HA, I wish I could really piss off my hair algae:lol2

We haven't done much on our tank lately. Partly because we are studying aquatic insects right now. It's a lot of fun too since we have a creek on our property and can go turn over rocks and find some of the little critters.

The other reason is because I don't have a stand for the tank. I am having a machine shop custom build a stand for me since there really isn't anything available in the dimensions of the tank. He has the plans drawn up but I am a little worried that I will not get it before the end of the school year. He says he is way behind on his work. He is making the stand out of angle aluminum or angle stainless. We have not decided yet. Any suggestions? Also, if anyone has a metal stand sitting around, can you measure the angle for me?

Just wondering what you are planning to do with the tank over the summer... Is the building air conditioned? Will you need a chiller?

It is air conditioned but it's set fairly high over the summer. I hadn't really thought of that. If you all think I'll need a chiller I'll probably just wait until next year to set it up. Either that or just put water and sand and base rock in it.
