im looking to get a light fixture for my 40g breeder. i've found a good deal on a used nova extreme pro 6x39 with 4 ati blue +, 1 KZ fiji purple and 1 GE 6500k, bulbs about 6months old. i am looking at the fishneedit fixture 4x39, which i've read good things about on various forums.

i'd love to go with the extreme pro but i'd be worried about bleaching corals. i plan on a few SPS but i'd like more LPS and soft corals

what do you guys recommend

Four bulbs is enough, but I think six would be better. I don't think you would have trouble acclimating corals to the higher light, especially if you provided an area of shade to start the more sensitive corals in. Besides, with six bulbs, it would be easier to get the perfect color combo you wanted.

What's the height of that 30g L, and do you like the 4 bulb fixture, or would you rather you had six on that tank?

I would go 6. Im sure 4 bulbs would be enough, but corals can adapt to more light. With 6, you increase your light output and that means more options.

i have 8 bulb set up on my 120g 24 " wide. right now im running just 4 bulbs and all my corals and sps are doing just fine.

i decided to go with the 6bulb, i should be getting it on monday
