Time to upgrade the 40B to a Deep Blue 75g. The 40 has served me well over a 10 year stretch and served as a frag tank prior to moving to GA. Right now as a display tank it’s just not big enough, you all know the story…
Plans are to make this an all-in-one tank, Skimmer, pre-filter, surface skimmer, fuge and a couple of media reactors to run carbon and phosban. Here’s a list of equipment so far…
ATI SunPower 6 bulb unit
Tunze 9005 Skimmer
A pair of Rio Plus 1400’s to move water through the fuge and circulation
Hydor Koralia 850 on a Smart Wave controller to stir things up
A pair of TLF 150 reactors

I’ll be using 40 lbs of live sand, a large chunk of pukani (about 40+ lbs) and a couple smaller chunks of live rock. I want room for coral to grow and some open space. Stocking plans will be a couple of Staghorns, about 4 acros and several gorgonians. Livestock to be determined.

More to follow...

Just think of the frags this can support! How are the recent frags doing, all happy and healthy?

They are all good!! I lost the new king midas. Next time you frag let me know!

I will gladly replace it for you, next time just remind me or I can bring one one day next week...just let me know!

Just got word I can pick up the tank today!!! Acrylic for the false wall (filtration/fuge compartment) will be available tomorrow. FYI if anyone is interested I found a great resource for Weldon products including #3 or #4 for capillary method. Only drawback for me is they are located by the airport. Time to pull out the table saw and router…pictures this weekend.

ill be following this as well..i like the all-in-ones and curious to see a larger one..good luck with build

This will be mid-size, I made a 120g version for my sister. Here is a recent FTS of her 120.

What do you mean by glass, the tank? If so all my tanks are glass but I use acrylic/plastic for the false wall and compartment dividers. Check out my Custom NanoCubes build thread, you can get an Idea of what I'm doing...Or stay tuned and watch where this goes.

Just picked up the Acrylic for this project and if anyone is looking for a place to get acrylic for a very reasonable cost, PM me for the info (not sure its ok to post a business name that’s not a sponsor of ours). One place I went to wanted over $300 for a 4'X8" sheet of ¼” black acrylic. The place I eventually found was at $120. I decided to go with 1/8" and just laminate a few pieces to get the desired thickness, the 1/8" sheet was only $65 and I have plenty left over for the next project.

Update time! I really thought I would zip through the construction phase…but as many of you already know things don’t move too quickly in this hobby. I got the acrylic cut, glued and finally siliconed it in place last night. I incorporated the Koralia into the false wall so only about ½ of it sticks out in the tank.

Sure...the laminating process is pretty simple, I just glue 2 sheets of acrylic to make a thicker sheet. In some cases I have laminated 3 sheets like the false wall in this build, its 3 sheets of 1/8” to make a 3/8” thick sheet. I cut the sheets a little over the size needed; apply Weldon 3 liberally so that some oozes out when they are joined. I use a formica roller to apply even pressure to the sheets once joined. I try to keep 2 adjacent sideds flush so I can have a true edges that are used to cut to size from there.

A 4’x 8’ x 1/8” sheet of black acrylic cost $68 while a ¼” sheet was almost double the cost so this saved some money to spend on other things. I have almost a half of the sheet left if anyone needs some ¼” black acrylic, cost is $2.15 a square foot.

Cool, I'd love to see the build! Let me know if you need a skimmer, I'll have a Tunze 9002 up for sale soon.

How much are you going to sell the tunze for? I may be interested.
