800 watts over a 75gallon

IMO a 400w mh.. particularly DE will be too intense for your corals at anything under 24"

JUST MY OPINION.

i tried it.. .. didn't work for me

Yeah, IMO two 250"s would be just fine. My dad has that over his 90 and he has great growth, color and such.

I run 2x250+2x95 over my 75 (yeah, I know thats only 700 ish)
but when my ballast blew on me, I ran 2x400 without any issues

correct me if my thinking is off, but if you are running MH .. say your 250s.. you only have 250 w over each point in your tank...

its 2x 250w.. but it is 250 per side.. ..

now .. if you had some sort of lamp that ran the ENTIRE length of the tank.. and they were say ... 50w per lamp and you had 10 of them.. THEN you would have 500w over your tank./...

understand I'm asking if this is right as much as anything....

just never understood the reasoning behind counting side by side MH lamps as total wattage over a tank.

help me understand :)

Shouldn't that be 2x110W?
:tongue2:

well im looking at upgrading to radium bulbs and i have read that mag. pulse start ballest will work is this true if i stay with 250 watt se set up

There is nothing like excess! That would be overkill for LPS/Softies, but great for SPS!

I have 2 times 400 watt Radiums over my 85............lovin' the colors and growth finally!

no chiller............

chris is he running the same ballest that heath is running but in the 250w version with
radiums?

No you would have 50 w per point 10 times, same thing as 250 per point just eight more points:lol2: I've got 3 400 watters in one reflector over a 5' tank so that would be 400 watts every 1.6666666666666666666 :lol2: sorry could not resist. but you do have a point , when someone ask about amount of light over a tank the dimensions are more relevant than the gallons.
