a question about mesh tops

i am setting up a 27 marineland cube and it came with glass tops
i just ordered a metal halide fixture to set on top of it
its 150 watts with 2 t5
if i build a mesh top i dont want it to melt or cause any damage to the light


has anyone had experience or problems with this

Yes, and the remedy is building a tank to fit your annoying brick work in the bedroom. Just like it in a "T" shape.

If it's sitting right on the tank as he said, it could be a problem.

If this is a new fixture it will come with legs to sit on the aquarium, or you can buy them separately as an accessory.

I think what the OP meant was that the fixture will sit with legs on top of the tank. No problem with a mesh top if that is the case.

It has mounting legs, so no problem. Just as an fyi to anyone, though, you should never put a halide fixture right on top of glass.

the only thing that bothered me is that it looks like 2-4 in off the tank
is that enough space

I have a 400 watt MH fixture about 10" off the water and my mesh top made it right at a year before I had to re-mesh it. Between the light baking it and salt spray collecting on it (I have a fairly wavy water surface) it got brittle and starting breaking.
