Question for SPS keepers

1) Where do you keep MAG level?

2) Do you dose? If yes, what?

Through consistent water changes and using Seachem Salinity or Reef Crystals my MAG stays pretty constant at 1300. I'm asking these questions because I've read about people keeping SPS tanks with MAG levles upwards of 1400-1600.

I am wondering if its worth it to create a dosing regimen to keep ALK at elevated levels.

Back in the day I use to maintain at 1800. Just used Epsom salts. I now dose BRS and keep it at 1500

can you elaborate on any benefits to maintaining at 1500 over 1300? what is your dosing regemin?

I keep mine at 1350 to 1400 with magnesium chloride and sulfate mix.

I'm curious about this myself. What I've read recommends keeping it around the 1350 mark. Higher levels are usually short term to treat Bryopsis, etc. I didn't think higher levels were healthy long term.

For the OP - I use BRS (mix of Magnesium Chloride and Magnesium Sulfate). I just started automated dosing for Mg, because I wasn't watching it closely enough.

I maintain my mag 3x's my calcium rate 450 which is 1350 to 1400

here's a good explanation of the relationship of calcium, alk, and magnesium......

Was just going to link to that. It's all about the bonds and helping maintain levels of ca and alk longer.
