I have been wanting to go to a nano for a while now. I currently have a 46 gal bow. I happen to mention that while I was at LFS store the other day, and the employee mention that I might not want to do that because a lot of people who have them have problems with them. I asked what kind of problems. I got pretty generic answers imo. I have been searching posts in this section, and really do not see any issues that larger systems might have from time to time. So my question is what could be the reason for his statement, and are there any issues, problems, maintenence, anything would be more than what you would encounter with a larger system.
Thanks.

I have a 12g nano and I would say the main reason they are not rcommended is because its easier to overdose the tank when adding chemicals. Your bioload capacity is small and less forgiving if you skip on water changes. Pretty much to make it short and simple everything is more concentrated. However if you know what your doing its no harder to maintain than a larger tank. Your husbandry skills will determine how well your tank does but this is with any tank. However I've seen 5g nanos with huge sumps so u still get the larger water volume. The positive side is there cheaper due to smaller amounts of everything. I started with a nano and I have had some trouble in the past but my tanks are flourishing.

Thanks. Those are the answers that I was looking for. Makes sense about water volume, and everything being more concentrated.
