Hi everyone, So I recently purchased a nice 58 gal tank and had some questions about how to go about transfering everything over to the new tank. Can you guys please share your wisdom and tips on how to make this go as smoothly as possible?

I was planning on using the old sand from the old tank for the fuge... But also since I had an outbreak of ick I was a little hesitant to do this. I was told that my LR could be used for the new setup after rinsing it in some clean saltwater. I'm planning on just getting all new sand and doing about a 3-4 inch sandbed. Any suggestions on which type or color?

I recently also aquired a RODI unit, and again because of the ick and what not I am afraid of using the older water. Currently the only live stock I have are zoos, sps, lps and 4 clowns with 2 blennys and various cuc.

If there is anything that I'm not considering please fill me in. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Have you had any other pest like aptasia? I'm a fan of starting new. Bleach my rock, do a cycle on the tank, and pretty much start over. Especially with a brand new tank, I want it clean. But if your rock is clean then yes use it with new sand and all new water. I would go with a 2 inch sand bed instead of the deeper because of toxins getting trapped in the deeper beds. The color and type is up to you. If you have a powerfull PH like a vortech you would want to go with a larger grain sand so it doesn't get blown everywhere.

Do you have a way to keep the old tank running and setup the new one over say a month period? This is about how long it takes to cycle a tank. Just an option. Never use old water its pointless to me. Fill up the new tank with fresh Saltwater with the RODI. This way its 100 percent clean and no worries about you stirring anything up in the old water. Its late I'm prob leaving out things I want to say but this is it for now, good luck and pics please. Start a build thread!!
