Pulled the trigger on a hybrid achilles tang. I have had him for just a few days and he is eating well and acting "normal". I have him in my qt tank and will baby him for several (5) weeks. Anybody tried this fish before? I know its going to be a challenge but he was too unique and cool to pass up.

The only concern I have at this point is his color. but being a hybrid (and just a juvenile), there is no telling how he is going to look at the end of the day. He is a little light/see-through for my taste. maybe a little tlc will fix him up.

anyone have a goldrim and would like to comment? I have never owned one. I will post pics once he colors up.

I had a goldrim. He would change colors constantly. In the morning he would look very pale but by afternoon, would almost turn blue. Strangest thing. The biggest issue I had with him was ick. Seemed to be a magnet for it. I fought it for several weeks. Unfortunately he ended up dying on me. I'm not sure if it was the ick or another issue that contributed to his death. Good luck with yours.

I will, once he colors up. He needs a week or so. I'm sure he has been in low salinity and copper for 4 weeks.

I had one for years (3~4 years). I finally sold him to to a fellow ARC member. Still doing good so he is about 5 years in captivity. Lovely fish, very similar to Powder blue in requirements. The larger the tank the better.

Mine had electric blue lines to it once matured.

Achilles hybrid or goldrim?

Very difficult Tang to keep, but if they last the initial QT process they are pretty durable. Just like a powder blue, Achilles, they are especially susceptible to ick. And with any Tang the more swimming space they have the better they will color, thrive and survive.

I had one for a year and a half before I broke the tank down, sold him to a friend and he still has the fish to this day.
