So I noticed this morning a small branch on one of my acro colonies has bleached out bummer. I also noticed this small branchy thing hanging off that same piece. Is this some sort of parasite.

best picture i could get, Its sticking out halfway down on the left side.

That's not good. What is beside it? Could something be stinging it?

I was thinking that as well, there is a supposed pink hydnaphora pretty close to it maybe 2 inces from it.

Possibly...

BTW - pink Hydno is more likely Paraclavarina triangularis (I don't know of a pink Hydno but that's usually what it's misidentified as...)

Not that this should make a difference whether it's stinging or not.

I'd try moving one or the other, dip the acro in a disinfecting dip and hope it heals. If it's RTN there's probably nothing you can do to save it, but I'd at least try that.

Right there at the base it seams like there is a hole by the dead peace like sompthing cored it out
I would wiggle it to snap it lose then take a small hose and suck out the inside of the hole
That is just weard looking usuly with bleaching it dusnot put holes at the bace of the coral

Good to know ;) well Ill give it a dip and see how it progresses. I really hate this type of stuff. Any dips that wont kill my favorite little crab living in it?

Edit:

The hole I think your referencing is actually the putty holding the acro to the rock. Its just the way it sitting in it. though i guess it could be something down in there nothing to lose at this point. Thanks

Oooh now that could be a problem. No I don't think the dip would be good for the crab - or at the very least I'd err on the side of caution. That changes the game a bit for sure.

If it's RTN you should know fairly soon because the R stands for "rapid" and it is rapid... depending on the size of the colony it can be gone in a few hours :(

The images I got out of a google search for P. triangularis didn't come up with the right stuff either. I have it here at the shop and Dana Riddle identified it for me several years ago.

Photo of that will enable me to tell you for sure. Again, it's probably immaterial to the problem at hand.

Yes Barry its the one i got from you. Ironically enough its the acro colony I got from you aswell Jenn. both players involved hehe.

Your pic Barry the only one I had on my phone

well everything seems to be ok today with the acro no further bleaching... I did clip that dead piece off and moved it away from the pink hydnophora/ P. triangularis, I guess time will tell.
