I have an acro that started to STN quite some time ago and stopped about 1/2 up from the base.. Algae was starting to grow on that small section (it stopped stn'ing about a month ago) and it has been annoying me for awhile.. So I finally fragged it away from the dead part.. Needless to say it slimed up from the stress of fragging.. I just watched my Scopus tang and Foxface eat the slime off the coral.. Anyone else seen that or know why?

After i dipped my candycane and put it in my tank it slimed, did it looked like it was kinda smoking?

Just to clarify.. I know about the slime part.. LoL
Just wondering if anyone has seen fish eat it.. And why they eat it..

I have a citron goby that (according to Liveaquaria) feeds on the mucous polyps of Acropora.

I have a bunch of acros that come out of the water during water changes and slime up. My scopas tang seems to love the stuff. He eats it weekly and I've had him for 3+ years so I'm not real worried about it. Maybe someone has a better answer for you.

Could it be like a coral vomit? food that basically is half digested that the fish go after?

i have 4 or 5 SPS colonies that come out of the water during WC's also....my sailfin and the chromis eat the slime.....even seen the wrasse do it every once in a while

Yeah, Acan hasselhoffi.

Coral slime is like crack to fish. Especially grazing fish.

Here is some interesting reading that might explain it a little.. I have noticed them eating the slime in my tank at home and at the shop. Particularly after fragging or a stinging situation.
