I am thinking about building a calc reactor, and one thing I have not found in my info gathering is how to add a probe to the water column, or where best to add it.

Probably ought to look for a used deal on a reactor before I get myself in trouble trying to buy one :)

Thanks!

You can build one like this for around $100.00. I've used it for a couple a years and it works great. But if you have a lot of calcium demanding corals, you might want to think about adding a second chamber. Remember, this is a DIY Calcium Reactor, so it's not going to preform like a professional one, but for the money you can't beat it.

I have a DIY saved at home that shows how to put the probe inline with the output of the reactor using fittings from Home Depot. That shouldn't vary too much from the water recirculating within the reactor.

LOVE to see the info on the home depot fittings!

Grim, do you have plans for yours? I dont have plans for more than a couple SPS and a few LPS. Your single stage may be all I need on my 120g?

Andy, I have a couple CO2 tanks and regulators (I have four kegs on tap at home). I did however see a nice dual gauge regulator with bubble counter made by Milwaukee on Aquacave.com or some such site. 85 bucks. Thinking about converting a "Sodastream" CO2 tank to fit a gauge, should fit under the tank nice.

Thanks for all the replies!

The PH holder is a water proof electrical connection for conduit (or romex, not sure which one), one that you turn and it becomes water tight on the PH probe and a PVC threaded connector glued into the PVC tee.

I"ll build you one or will help you build one. If you have an extra CO2 bottle, I could use one if you would get rid of one.

Thanks Grim! I'll check out the Depot tomorrow for that fitting.

I would hook you up but I am thinking on swapping my large CO2 tank for a "syphon type" which would allow me to refill sodastream bottles. They are like one pound bottles.

My wife got a SodaStream for Christmas, and I fell onto the refill plans because SodaStream wants like 25 bucks for a one pound bottle refilled.

This site sells the conversion hardware:

I think that little bottle would free up a lot of space in the stand.

This is the regulator I am looking at:

Current build notes I may follow are actually for a sulfur reactor, but they seem detailed and if I connect two together I should be a ble to make an inexpensive dual stage:

PVC, so I wont be able to see the media, but should be much cheaper.
