first off id like to say ive searched adding a sump to a 20g and all i get is 20g sumps for bigger tanks, but im computer illiterate...anyway, id like to build a sump for my 20g bow front tank. Im currently running a h.o.b filter for a 55 gallon, wich gets in the way of alot of things. I kind of understand the layout of the sump, but can someone help me out with knowing what size pump, lines, and plumbing i would need? Also, how can i achieve it without drilling my tank, and is an overflow needed or is the sump capable of handling overflow on a 20 gallon? Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at the stacked design on melev's site. Marc has some great ideas.
I know a 10 will work, but why not a 10 with a 5 or 2.5 above it with rubble?
Trust the previous post on the cpr overflow. Never worry running the risk of breaking syphon.
Get whacky and use a 20 for a fuge/planted tank a little below the drain line of the other too. Flow goes out and zigs into the caulerpa filled tank then zags further the opposite direction again into the 10 under the display.

Thank everyone for their help, melev's site answered just about every question i had, along with dawgdudes recomendation for a pump. I would also like to say thank you to cliff at all things aquatic for hooking me up with an overflow, acrylic, and lots of great advice...you saved my behind! If i can find a pump i will hopefully get the sump built and running next weekend. I will try to make a tutorial type deal but i dunno being my first try, what do yall think. Radha, have you been to melevs site? Its great, and i will let you know how it goes, because i cant find nothing for a sump on a 20 gallon so we shall see.

Hows this for my sump layout. The 10 gallon is 20x10x12...Lemme know what you think, i have no idea about baffle heights and chamber sizes, im not running a skimmer.

I think the 1x1x1 baffle should be at the other end to trap air bubbles and debris from the return. Wanna see pics when this is done.
Is the tank drilled or are you using an overflow?

thanks for the feedback, I have an overflow and i will put the baffles on the otherside...i wont be running a skimmer on this, do you think i should, can it wait ? And I will also run the filter 1" from the top. Is live rock rubble prefered over bio-balls? Hopefully i will get this done and pics posted this weekend...thanks again guys!
