I have a 45 gallon 36"x12"x21" tank up and running and going to put H. Erectus in it. Any advice on this set up would be greatly appreciated.. I have been researching this and reading alot but I thought I would post this and get some people who have had this breed before to give me some good advice on them.. advice like lighting...plants...corals...

Kicking for Brian.

Hopefully, Kurt (ksauerb322) will see this thread and tell you about his lovely seahorse tank.

I saw pics of Kurts on Bobz thread in the breeders forum and it was a nice set up and thanks to Tokejr for all of your help so far and I hope I am not a bother with all my newbie questions...

your tank size will work fine. I'd recommend leather corals, zoas, mushrooms, macro algaes, and gorgonians (for hitching) and would go well with their low light/low demands. They are messy eaters, so watch your water quality. Best of luck on your seahorse journey!

Codium is a great macroalgae for hitching. Halimeda too. I've got those and some other Macros that Roxanne traded with me.

I've got no corals in there yet, but I used to keep a few softies and a couple of sponges (last time around with a seahorse tank).

They are messy eaters, but training them to a feeding station is pretty easy. When it comes to food, the seahorses seem to find it no matter how you put it in the tank.

Here's a good article on feeding stations:

I think there's also an article on it at seahorse.org but couldn't find it this morning.

I got an over the door acrylic towel hanger and superglued a shell to it. That way I could hang the feeding station in the same place and squirt the mysis into the shell. If you put a hitch near their feeding station, they will sit there waiting for the shell at feeding time.

Absolutely no bother - keep asking. I'm sure you'll have more when you actually get the seahorses in the tank.

Thanks for the info and the atricle I have read it and printed it off for future refference

can anyone advised me if the H. Reidi is aggresive? I was thinking of a pair of H. Erectus and a pair of H. Reidi in this tank is this a bad idea?

No seahorse I've ever seen could even be remotely defined as "aggressive".

You can keep different species together - they may hybridize... there are mixed opinions about that, so I won't go there.

I've kept female H. kuda, H. reidi, H. erectus together - no problems.
