Hey guys just realized today oddly enough even though the area I'm moving to next month isn't in the city it is on city water system I have been on well water for past 5 years and I have my rodi hooked up for Now. What are my options for water for my tank should I just start purchasing rodi water ? Install chlorine filters? I have never had to pay for my water from the city since I've had a tank and I know my rodi waste a lot of water

Just use your RO/DI. It removes city water nasties too.

Not sure how much water you are having to make on a weekly/monthly basis, but I would think paying for it thru the city(even with the waste) would still be cheaper and easier than hauling back and forth to lfs or other store. I would at least try it for awhile and see how bad the bill is.

glade you could keep fish on well water ours was too hard. many years ago we never could until we figured out it was the well. we then went to the gas station and brought water home. it was for FW.

My bill prior to buying a RO unit was about $24. Even when I made 150 gallons in one week my bill was $25. You won't see any real difference in the water bill from the little bit you use to make RO.

RO/DI all the way...prices could probably triple and you would still be well ahead of buying it remotely.

You'll likely go through less filters & resin once you get on City water. I've found it to be cleaner (less TDS anyhow) than well water.

+1

I change all my pre filters once a month. Chlorine and chloramine can mess up membranes. The carbon block pulls out the chlorine and cholaramines, so if you change it frequently, you wont have to replace the expensive membrane as often.

If you already have RODI and you are moving to city water I would think that would be a good thing.

Heck, City even gives you annual water reading so and they are also posted online. You can have a very good idea of what is going to be going into your RO/DI vs well you'd have to monitor all that yourself

Thanks for the Tidbit of info I wasn't really concerned with the price, I was mainly concerned with the content and if my rodi would be able to properly remove everything in the water.

I have soft water where I am at so its really not been much issue once I started using the rodi

I would think my girl showering twice a day uses more water than my reef tank lol.. I only do about a 5g a week water change so I don't think that should be much of a issue at all.
