Aiptasia Problem

Everytime I touch mine it just multiples...hate that!

im about to be switching tanks. I have ONE rock that is infested with aiptasia with only one coral on it. Sad part is i dont think that coral will make it either way. Im thinking about boiling the rock when i siwtch and buy some peps to maintain it from there on out....

I bought 100 lbs of LR from someone off the ARC and realized that it was covered in aiptasia. I've got it in my reef tank with 8 peppermint shrimp. It looks like the shrimp are pretty effective. I'm hoping that it will be totally gone in another month or so.

that scks. i would boil it, scrub it, and let it start over as "new" live rock.

Yeah, I developed a few aptasia in my tank a few months back and I quickly picked up 6 peppermints... the aptasia where gone within one week, and I have never had a re-infestation.

jeff what do you feed the shrimp now?
mine eat flakes fine. just curious.

i think dakota was talking about the camelback shrimp......they look very similar to peps but have a pronounced hump on their backs.....i havent had much of a problem with aiptasia.....*knocks on wood*....but there are many different ways to erradicate.....the best is usually peps.....or a copperband......IME

ive seen it before.....but i wouldnt think it was intentional.....i mean it can happen that they order peps and get camels from the distributor and dont look closely enough to notice......they look very similar.....anyone can make the mistake at a glance

they do......they almost look more like a peppermint candy than peppermint shrimps do....cause the white and all.....but they dont eat aips......

quarantine your 6 line for 5 days while add about 5 peppermints...


when the aiptasia is gone, throw the 6 line back in and let him thin out the pep. population..

yeah id get rid of the satan spawn.......keep the peps for any aiptasia that may pop up....plus theyll be part of the CUC.....
