Algae? Normal?

Over the last few days, I've been seeing more and more of what I'm assuming is algae. It started on the top of my LR and has now moved to my LS today:

I know the picture isn't great, but it's a brownish green and looks kind of mossy on the LR. It looks like a picture of Diatoms that I saw, but the description was "like dust" and this is more mossy than dusty (at least on the LR, hard to tell on the LS really).

This tank was started on Feb. 23 with uncured Totoka LR and Fiji Pink LS.

Is this a normal part of the cycle or something I should be concerned about?

Your tank is fairly new, give it time its just going through the normal process. As the tank matures, you will less and less. Although Keep an eye on the amount of feed your putting in if any. Your on the right track, just give it time thats all you can do.

Diatom.

New Tank Syndrome

It'll get worse before it gets better, but it should recede eventually

After the "Brown" Phase, will usually come the "Green" Phase, and if you're lucky, you'll by-pass the red-cyno phase that also seems typical of new tanks.

Good Luck

I went through the brown phase few months back started to get cyano for a split second then it went away. Then I started getting nice coraline then it went to green phase then hair algae. So if we can get past all that I will be good

Yeah, uh...... Hair Algae isn't really a "phase' so to speak, as much as a plague......

Good luck with that though!

looks like diatoms to me also. keep your flow up and after your cycled keep your water changes up to avoid that cyno "phase". and only use RODI if that even needs to be said.

Yep, it's diatoms. A normal part of the tank's early life. It will pass. When water parameters decide it's OK, a clean up crew will help with this.
