The back of my Nuvo40 is 4". Everything fits but I figured maybe add a little bit more for wiggle room. But I would default to experience - I've seen Dave's tank and its pretty groovy

I guess it depends on what type of skimmer you’re gonna run. If your running a hob on this tank or a small footprint Tunze sure 4” will work. But if your planning on using a normal or even space saver skimmer you’re gonna need 6+” probably (that’s what she said)
