All my corals are dying! Boooooo....

Well, I didn't connect with Brian again last night, so I had to let it ride. The 10 gallon got all cloudy and so I tested the big tank for everything. Ammonia read 0 and so I placed everything back in there. I'm sure jumping in and out of tanks didn't help things, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Not looking too good right now, but I'll see when the lights come on shortly. I'll take some pics.

Me sad...very sad.

Poor little green bird's nest. It started like this two years ago:

Pink bird's nest MAY make it. It's bigger than a canteloupe now.

oh wow - Im no expert but arent those signs of an alk problem? i cant think of anything else that would do that except some extreme light shock...i think i would be in the bathroom throwing up if that happened to me...holy cow man - let me know if I can do anything to help

I have no idea, man. I just checked the ALK and it came back at 11. I appreciate the offer for help! I wish there were something someone could do, but I think it just has to take it's course at this point. Starting over will suck, but I won't be the first to have done it, nor the last! I learned a very important lesson about transferring sand beds this go 'round!

I have a ~2" birdsnest mini colony you can have once you get it sorted.

Aww, man...that would be so awesome of you! The really sad part is, I was just about to frag off stuff for some newbies, myself.

Just let me know when you want it... I can frag a couple of other things too.

The carnage...the HORROR!

What to do with all these skeletons?

Well, I screwed up something in the post. Sorry about that! I can't figure out how to edit it though.

Those skeletons could make some cool live rock once they are covered with coraline. You know, lemons to lemonade.....

Hope you figure out what went terribly wrong with the tank....

Yeah, I had to pull them out because they were getting covered in diatoms from the coral death. I'll let them sit out in the sun and then decide what to do with them. One LFS offered me a bit of store credit for them as they would use them in their fish tanks for decoration. Or, maybe my wife will figure out a cool use for them!

As for the tank crash, I can only guess that it was either ammonia or some sort of toxin. After speaking to the folks at Mars Fish (makers of API), they said that an unusual reading like I got tended to mean a level of ammonia too high to read, or some other chemical in the water affecting the reagent. Who knows!? I have a couple of new frags in there now and everything looks great. Of course, this is after nearly 100 gallons in WCs! My kenya tree is still dying off, but I can't say I'm too upset about that. Guess I have a blank slate to work from. Probably a good time to rearrange the rock work.

Here's what it USED to look like about 5 months ago. Not gonna win TOTM, but I was happy where it was headed.
