Anemone getting to big.

I just reccently bought a GBTA at my LFS and the thing has gotton HUGE and I mean about 9inches huge.. It will not stop growing! Well I'm not getting rid of it but how close can it be to other coral. It's 4 inches around my favia. Will they sting each other?

they won't sting each other, the anemone will kill it.

AND AWAY GOES THE FAVIA. I just moved the favia down some. Hopefully it does ok with the light decreasing. Is there a way to make these things split fatser? I've heard of peope feeding clam?

why would you want it to split?

So it might be a little smaller? I do like how it's nice and big but I have had to move a lot of my corals.

Mine has split 3 times. So far only one time was in half to make two small ones. The other two times a small piece broke off to form a small 3 in one. As of right now I have 3 two of which are about 12in and one 3 in. So don't count on him getting smaller just prepare for his size. How ever I wish my two larger ones would split so I take 4 of them up to optium.

I have not found a formula to make them split. A couple of years ago, I bought a huge RBTA and fed it every other day (hoping it would split). The nem got huge, probably 12-14 inches across.

I finally stopped feeding it and let it be... a few months later it split three ways. Those clones grew for about 4 months and then they went on to split. I eventually had a colony of 13 nems!

Moral of the story: I have had more luck with nems splitting by not feeding.

There are something's you can try to do to get them to split. Just know up front this is not scientific and only my experience.

You can try to increase feedings or stop feedings. Amount and number of times a week. Just be careful because this will add excess nutrients especially if the nem rejects what you feed due to the size. O

You can change the water flow of the tank. Sometimes nems will split due to too much flow. My last nem split because of this. I had the powerhead blowing right on the nem and it got pissed. It tried to move but half the foot was stuck. In a few weeks the nem ripped itself apart.

If you have a separate tank setup and can move the nem, move it. Not sure why but sometimes they will split when placed in a new environment. Could be flow, chemistry, nutrients, I really don't know.

The last thing you can do is use a razor blade and manually split the nem. I have never done this but I have heard its not to hard. You have to remove the nem from the spot they are in and I wouldn't want to move mine.

I HAD nice corals, until my BTA split, and kept on splitting.

I always have trouble with getting them to split. It takes up the whole middle of the tank... So I guess it's going to be my "showpiece".
