Anemone shoe

Has anyone ever thought of making a "shoe" out of epoxy for a nem to put it's foot to keep it from moving. Over time while keeping anemones, I've found that the right spot is almost always with their foot either on the underside of a rock or deep in a hole. When they have their foot in a hole, they rarely if ever move. What I just did was make a "shoe" out of epoxy (it's shaped kind of like a cornucopia). I'm hoping that if I put the nem is a critter keeper with the "shoe" it will find it and attach to it. Thoughts?

Great Idea! Keep us posted-I have been wanting to get a bubble tip but I have so many corals that I don't want to get hurt.

I agree and think having their foot in a hole or at least well protected is the most important thing in getting them to stay put. I have had several that were on smaller rocks with deep holes and it really didn't matter how I move the rock, including putting it so the hole was on the bottom the anemone always kept its foot in place but stretched its body to get to the light and flow.

I think the epoxy idea has a lot of merit and may work, but if it doesn't consider using a rock that can be cut and/or drilled to do the same thing.

Love that word!

I just find a "holey" rock and get him situated before homing him in the tank. BUT, a product would be cooler.

I'm probably jinxing this, but it's been happy and stationary for about a month.

Im planning on getting a anemone but I have no clue if my water is good
(no test kit)

Give your tank a little more time to get established.

Type of anemone depends on where it likes its pedal disc to be.

LTA like a flat surface - the PVC ring trick works well on bare glass.

BTA like a rocky crevice. PVC ring trick doesn't work so well with them.

Wow, that is gorgeous. Where did you get it from. The colors are just absolutely stunning. neat trick too.

Yes i agree, that is a very vibrant and one of the best anemones ive seen.
How long have you waited til you put one in? Did you wait 6 months?

I got it from Linda Lee a few years back; never seen another one like it. The center is almost black. I cut it up every now and then.

I love my piece. They are sweet! Except mine in not a black as yours. Matt what did the actual "shoe" epoxy piece look like?

Kind of like a cornucopia.

I made a shoe as well about 8 days ago .I stuck it in a pond basket my nem has been in for a while and about 7 days later he found it.I moved it to a lower part of my tank and he its still there.

ive tried with minimal luck they just do what they please and seem to be happier like that i turn my pumps off drop them in the tank let them float around for a few hours and when i know thry are attached i turn on the pumps and start moving nearby corals iv givven up on trying to make them stay
