can someonehelp me with live rock.. i have some but do i just put it in or is there something i have to do

Man, why are we still awake. LOL...

How live is it? Meaning, how long has it been out of the originating water, or what has it been through since it's origination? Reason for me asking is that will determine how much dead material now resides on your live rock... The longer truly live rock is out of water, the more stuff dies on it... Was it shipped to you, or did it go straight from one tank to yours?

Some will say bleach it, and start over, some will say throw it in, and monitor your water for a cycle.

lol imstill up intil i get the tank done lol took it out of my lfs live rock tank couple hours ago
'

Been there, done that. LOL...

Ok. As long as you kept it wet, you are good. Check it for algae and any unwanted hitchhikers and throw it in there if there are none...

Edit: Oh yeah... Monitor and test your water for a while to make sure that live rock doesn't have anything leaching from it that will mess up your parameters...

will do would youcare to tell me what i would exactly look for going wrong?

Now that, I'm not 100% certain of, but, I've heard that some LR can leak phosphates into your system and make your ph fluctuate.

You still may have to cycle your system, so it should have some time to equal out, and be corrected if need be... This is where patience comes into play...

okay well il look at all of them and one more think anyclue how to lower the noise of my overflow it is crazy loud

what style of overflow do you have? each overflow has its own method for making it quiter

First have a reef ready tank with one overflow and it has two prices of PVC the drain and the jet part

No I'm not intirely dumb lol got water little bit of rive rock and its cycling

THe key word hear is PATIENCE....pls. let that tank cycle....rest your water with the kits and keep a log of this with dates and times. Don't fell like a question is a stupid question..but not asking is a stupid question. Ask it someone on hear is always glad to help you with it. I am sure we all have learned something the hard way...I know I did. Just ask we will help. Mike

you might want to check out some books from the local library and read as much as possible about salt water....lol

Wait just a few days then start checking
Ph level
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
Then to help with the cycling... wait till after the first week or so...maybe added a couple of snails and a couple of blue legged hermit crabs (these are reef safe). If you used live sand and also LR you can also do ghost feeding...like feeding the tank with fish in it...this will help feed the bactiries
that cycle the tank.
This is how I do mine...I am sure that the more experienced people can chime in with other ways to do it and what else to check. Everyone is here to help. Join the ARC and get all the benefits we offer. A lot of our sponsors are glad to help also. Good Luck. Mike

to answer your original question we need a little more info on your drain line is it just an open pipe and the water runs down it? if so look into installing whats called a durso stand pipe it will help reduce the noise or if you want to get a little fancier/ more complicated unplug your return pipe and get a hang on the back return tube it should look like an upside down u with a nozzel on it and then turn both pipes in the overflow into drains and do whats called a herbie overflow where the larger pipe is used to drain most of the water but has a gate valve on it to prevent it from sucking so much water that it also sucks air which makes the noise. and have the smaller pipe about 3 inchs higher then the other one so that the water level inside the overflow slowly rises until it reaches that pipe and drains down that. it also acts as an emergency pipe if the main drain gets clogged the other one can take most of the flow and will most likely become very loud because of air getting sucked into the it and alerting you to the problem that needs to be fixed
