This is growing at the base of my toadstool. I first thought it was aphasia but it seems to be growing from a single stalk. Any thoughts? 20200610_142207.jpg

Looks like a polyp of some kinda - maybe anthelia or xenia?

Of it's not a pest I will just leave it and frag it off and give it it's own plug. If it's a pest will still frag it off and toss it. I may give it a little time so I can figure it out.

Let me see if I can get a better pic. It's on the back side so I'm having to take the pic at an angle.

I'm leaning towards hui's postulation. Hydroids don't typically branch out of existing stalks.

Look up colonial hydroids. There are a lot of different ones out there. They are that size but typically not in that configuration. I'm thinking hui is right though and it's a baby toadstool.

I guess I will have a little patience and see how it turns out. Sometimes when things pop up it's better to get a handle on them before they get out of hand. I did look up colonial hydroids and I agree they dont look quite like this.

There are also some harmless filter feeders that look lIke this, and commonly found on live rock as hitchhikers. The most common colors are white, tan, and yellowish. Generally, I group them with sponges/tunicates in terms of how I view them from a biological perspective.

I can’t recall the name of them off hand, but will look them up later. Just an idea... I think he other suggestions are all also good possibilities!
