Having a heck of a time getting this Network setup. I must say, DA has some serious work to do in order to make their controllers more Plug n Play. Not everyone is a Network wiz. I know enough to somewhat get around, but no expert by any means. All of the DynDNS server, signing up for iP's, setting up Ports that may or may not be blocked, setting up Port Forwarding in the Router settings! I mean...really!!!! :confused2: For the price of these things, they need to hire a Networker assigned to the setup.
So, I have posted up over at the DA forum, been in contact with Oscar, who seems to be the resident Network guru. Though, communication is kinda slow.:) Anyone here get one of these things setup successfully?
One other thing they need to work on:
If there is an alarm...have the unit send JUST 1 EMAIL, not 100!!!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!:mad2:

Hurry up and work out all the bugs so I can cheat off of you when I get mine. :-).

I'm trying man. Seems some of it has to do with what type of router you have, as well as what Ports your ISP is blocking. There is so much jumping around in that post over on DA that it has made it confusing. After reading through all 15 pages, it was still hit or miss on the info. Some of it was finished in PM's, so you didn't get to follow an actual fix from start to finish.
I was able to finally learn which Port my ISP (being Comcast) blocks which was Port 80, 81 seems to be open according to Canyouseeme.com.
Problem with these types of setup's are, you end up trying so many work arounds that it nearly makes it impossible to remember how or what steps were taking. I mean, without making a Flow Chart.:lol2:

I set mine up. GOOD LUCK! I probably couldn't do what I did a second time. All I remember was I had to setup a vpn for it to work.

Yeah, that is what I was getting at. It is way way way too complicated. There is no where near enough info in the manual to even begin. In fact, it don't even give you a hint at how to begin. It tells you how to access the Net Module via the internet and that is it. IMO, they grossly dropped the ball in setting up the Networking on these. Its out right terrible.
There are entirely too many ways of doing this. Seems to me, DA should have as part of buying the equipment new or used, to have access to FREE DnsDYN. It used to be free, as was TZO, however, those companies now charge by the year. Mind you it is only $15/yr which is nothing, but its the principle of it all. My Router is less than a year old, the only two options for setting up DDNS is the two names I just mentioned. I think DLink may offer its own setup, which is what I had prior to my Linksys. The DLink died.
Anyway, this is night 2 trying to figure this out. For some reason...I can't access my Net Module now. Tried the same web address as last night, no joy!:mad2:

Shoot, right now... I would be happy with just one of them working lol

Well Rich, I am not for sure on that. From what I have gathered so far, if your Router, like mine, only offers DynDNS.org or TZO.com as options for setting up DDNS. Then we may be stuck paying a yearly fee to get a Host Domain from them in order for our Router to work cleanly. I believe setting up a Static may be a work around, I was just researching that. I know how to do it on a computer, but not how to make the NET module Static.
I can see my Module while at home either from Laptop or Smartphone. However, if I turn off my wifi on my Smartphone and try to login, I get nothing. Can't try it on my laptop yet because of course it is attached to my wifi with no other means of getting off my Network and back on the Net due to Jellybean update. Used to use FoxFi as a work around for the Smartphone, Jellybean update killed it. Still works if you have IceCreamSandwich though! Nice App.
Anyway, still working on this!
In the mean time, log into your Router at home, look for DDNS. It will likely be disabled right now, but click on it and see what options it gives you.
Most people on DA, setup their DynDNS accounts. They did so back in 2011 and some in the spring of 2012 so perhaps it was free then. That site charges now, though it does offer a free 14 day trial, and not sure if I understand their site right or not. They say they will allow you to keep 1 domain name even if you cancel, but not sure how that works. I may end up having to go that route if I can't figure out the Static option.

I had mine working through my local network but could never get it working with my iphone app. then i changed to AT&T Uverse and it stopped workiung again. Now nothing works on the net. Very frustrating. If I had a week with nothing else to do Icould probably get it working agian but I agree, DA has a lot of good things about it but the usability is not one of them. I'm tagging along as well to see what experts may be out there.... bz

I have a friend that set his up in less than an hour. He says it is very easy. He can look at all tank parameters from his phone any where. And can turn on and off anything he wants. (he does not get on here) I have not set mine up but will in the near future. I will try to post how I do it. (he)

Well the flipping stars and planets must have been in line for him! Really, I think I have it figured out, the one question I have that I haven't been able to confirm or not is whether or not ANY DynDNS online site will work, or do I have to pay for the two option choices that my Router gives me options for. I may have to sign up for the 14day trial to see if that is the case. If it works, and I can't figure out another way around it, I either have to buy another router, or pay for a yearly subscription in order to use an expensive device. IMO, like I said, that should not be the case in order to use this device.

You are above my networking level a bit but, seems to me that if your ISP does not have you on a static IP your modem address changes on a semi-regular basis correct? If so, you are searching for a device that is no longer at that address.

Rich,
There is software that you download that keeps the updating of your iP in check. You have to jump through some hoops in order to get this thing setup. I think the main thing holding me up is the DDNS setup.

Hopefully I will have it sorted out by then. I am either going to need some confirmations from DA, or figure things out on my own.

Well I finally received a PM from a guy on their forum. Though he is not a DA employee. He gave me his number, but I was out of town until midnight on Friday. So haven't had a chance to contact him. Probably wont have much time this week either. I have 2 new hires to get to know this week before taking them out on the road. Oh yay for me! :D
Once I get this thing setup, I will try to write it down and update a new post. Perhaps it will be helpful for someone later on.
