Any Stopping Red Monti STN?

A couple days ago I noticed that one of the outer edges of my red monti was turning white. It was close to some mushrooms that had stung it previously, so I assumed the same thing had happened. However, it continued to spread inwards a couple of mm per day over the last couple of days. A quick internet search led me to the conclusion that I'm dealing with STN (no pests, etc. detected in the night).

If correct, is there any stopping it? I'm going to do a water change today and refresh my carbon. Last night I broke off the dead piece, but must not have broken off enough, as the progression of dying has continued. This piece has been growing like crazy, and is about 8-10" wide and 8-10" deep. I'd hate to lose the whole thing.

What's odd is that this piece had something similar occur in the center a couple of months ago. I didn't pay it much attention, and it ended up healing itself. Would hate to break a ton off, if it's likely it can heal itself once again. Also, have an identical red monti in another part of the tank, as well as a grape monti, neither of which are having any issues. Don't have pics, but it's not very complicated. Red has turned to white and is spreading from the outside in.

Any thoughts from those that may have experienced this?

Thanks,
Brian

It does sound like stn and the only I know to stop it is to frag it about 1/2 to 3/4 inch away from the stning part of it and dip it to prevent spread. I would also say to frag a small piece as far from the stn as possible and dip it so you have a back up In case you end up losing the colony but since you have another one in the tank I wouldn't worry about

Thanks. The progression appears to have slowed, but if it resumes, I'll definitely cut it back as you suggest. Unfortunately, the remainder of the piece is huge and attached to a rock and my back glass. Don't think dipping is an option.

Fingers crossed.
