Any way to quickly cycle a qt tank?

My gramma has stopped eating due to ich so i need to treat him asap. Any way to quickly cycle a qt tank?

do 25-30% water changes daily and you won't have to worry....

you can always use stability and prime by Seachem, too.....

I never try to cycle a hospital tank. The medicine I use for 'ich' (cryptocaryon actually) will kill off the bacteria anyway.

Bill, will that medicine bind Ammonia? If not, that can be a quick killer.

At a minimum I'd recommend Prime, and stability and some matrix wouldn't hurt.

Don't use Prime or any other sulfur based binder with Formalin (if it's used). Hikari Ultimate is compatible with Formalin-based meds.

But yes, some form of ammonia detoxification should be used.

Jenn, I LOVE that article and refer to it often, but would really think people would benefit from it being updated with good instructions on using Prime & Stability in a QT/Hospital tank. I.e., even though you use Prime, you will see Ammonia climb, but it's not toxic at that point.

Personally, I ran into problems and am still very confused in QT tanks with Prime & Stability in how often to do water changes and then readding prime/stability. I burned through ~$300 in fish in failed QT attempts. It sucked.

I do 25% water change per day, when fish are in a hospital tank. Re-dose med's accordingly. Never had a problem with ammonia.

No evidence that quinine binds (reacts) with ammonia. Used it since the '80's.

Prime (and similar products) binds ammonia but it will still show up on a test. It prevents the ammonia from harming fish, to a point. It's a band-aid - the ammonia still needs to be dealt with, but it buys you some time and "forgiveness" to deal with it.
