Anyone available to help me tonight?

Ugh. I just did a water change with this and didn't notice that this salt didn't mix as easy as what I'm used to. I ran it with a PH in a bucket for 24 hours like normal but my water is fairly cloudy and some of the corals are not happy.

Chris if you ever need help again at Imagine Ocean let me know. I live just a couple exits down and was even at the store yesterday around 5:00.

I had someone PM me with the same issue last night. I don't have any cloudiness issues with Salinity. Mine always is cloudy the first 20-30 minutes in the WC container, but then it clarifies quite well, and it doesn't show cloudiness in the tank after I add it to the system. Strange....

Even the bucket of 5 gallons I mixed by hand last night to test the table I posted earlier in this thread cleared up after about 10-15 minutes, and that was 5 minutes of hand stirring only.

Hmmm. I don't know what the deal is. Looked clear in the black bucket after 24 hours but you could definitely see the fine particles in the tank water and about 1/5 of so of my corals slimed a little bit.

They are all fine now and it's clear as can be but I'll just have to be more careful next time.

I'm not trying to say you didn't do it right or anything. Pretty much a no brainer for anyone to put a PH in a bucket, of course.

I wonder if it is the water chemistry of your particular reef vs the Salinity water chemistry that could be the issue? Not saying your levels are bad, but I wonder, say for example, your calcium level is 380 (low normal) and the new salinity water is 450, or your mag level is low normal and the Salinity water is high, or vice versa. Or your tank KH is 7 and the Salinity water is 12, or any other large difference in chemistry levels?

Calcium was 520 the other day. PH and Alk were definitely low though. Like 7.8 and 11.

Did you happen to put the salt in the bucket first, and then add water? If so, then that may explain it...

I noticed mine doesnt cloud up as much if I add it very slowly to the water - like a cup at a time every 30 min - I think blake told me about that.

when i just pour in all the salt in one sitting my bucket gets all mucky and filmy

I went pretty slowly but not that slowly.

I add the salt to the container with the water in it and the mixing pump already on, so the water is in motion when the salt hits it, and I do a fast pour of the salt into the water.

I do the same. Same as I've always done with no problems.

I have heard others say the same thing about the cloudiness...just funny how some have issues and others don't. that's what made me think maybe a particular reef's KH, Ca or Mag levels could have something to do with it. That's just a guess, of course.

It certainly could be that. I know my Alk and PH are low.
