Getting back into the hobby and currently planning my build. Does anyone on here build custom stands for a reasonable price?

Currently looking at IKEA for something I want, however they are all so short.

Looking for a basic cabinet, 38" wide, 13" deep, and about 40" tall.

Thanks!

^yup mdf will swell and start crumbling when it gets wet. not what you want for an aquarium stand.

Typically, I agree. There are alternatives with plastic tops that can be reinforced.

Unfortunately it appears to be the best option for my desired build unless I can find someone who will custom build one.

Is the option I liked (can get doors instead of drawers), but I need something about foot taller.

Nothing wrong with MDF as long as it's sealed properly.
I believe all Red Sea stands are MDF.

There are a few stand makers on this forum, the problem is if they're available or not. I, myself, got one made from a member here. Absolutely love it!

I like that! Nice and modern..

But you prob won't get a custom stand for that price :o)

FWIW, I am going with a Mr Aqua 12 L. Currently getting a Custom Place on Back sump made for it so I won't need to drill. Hopefully getting it wet a month from now, should be able to come up with a stand by then.

It would be perfect! My main issue is that its 29" tall. I am 6'2" so the idea of having to bend down to see my tank close to eye level really annoys me :D

I personally hate having my tanks tall and I hate viewing my tanks from standing position. All my tanks are "couch height" as I called it =) So you can plop out on the couch and enjoy your tank. *grin*

Keep in mind standard industry height for stands is 30" some of the brands you can "special order" a 36" tall one. But anything other then that will be custom. I actually have very a similar "ADA Style" stand that we had custom made specifically for the Mr.Aqua 12 gallon "Book Shelf" tanks. I have it in stock right now in black. So if you are looking for custom we have made stands for that exact tank before. We can get anything made just depends on what you want and what you are trying to spend.

The current "ADA Style" stand we had custom made for the 12g Mr.Aqua is around $250.

I'm not at the store anymore. I'm off tomorrow but I'll be stopping by so I will snap some pictures for you. The stand we have is pretty short, but it will give you an idea of styling.

That'd be great, thanks! Any idea it's height, my girlfriend is slowly convincing me to go with one that is normal height.

Hey sorry for the late response. Didn't make it back to the shop until today.

Not sure if you will want the stand that we have. It is very short at only 25"... it was a special order for a customer that ended up backing out and we ended up getting stuck with it. But after looking at it I remembered that the builder wasn't comfortable building it any taller then 25" because of how narrow the stand/tank are. He said that any taller then that there is a high risk of it falling over when lightly/accidentally bumped into.

I need to clarify though... I assumed you are talking about the Mr.Aqua "Serene Bookshelf" tank that is (35.4" x 8.3" x 9.4") but looking back at your post now you were asking for a (basic cabinet, 38" wide, 13" deep, and about 40" tall. ) So not sure if we are talking about different tanks of if you already considered/accounted for the fact that the stand needed to be wider in order to support the height. If that is the case the we can certainly make a 30 - 36" stand at 13" wide.

Either way here is the stand that we have. Made to mimic the Japanese "ADA Style" stand just in the color black instead of gray...

****, that stand is gorgeous. Serene Bookshelf may be what it is called, I've just always known it as the 12long. Pretty sure it is the same thing though.

40" may be too tall, upon further reflect and measuring, im thinking 32" tall is about where I want to be.

I am getting a custom Place on Back sump created now, probably won't be ready until early August. It is 5" wide (or deep however you want to look at it).

I agree narrow stands typically need to be wider (deep).

I think final dimensions of the stand I would like are:

38" wide. 15" deep. 32" tall.

If something like could be created... How much would it cost? And what would the lead time be?

Shouldn't be any problem at all make it. I will get you a quote on Monday, my builder is off already for 4th of July weekend. Turn around time is 2-4 weeks, depends on how many other builds my guy has already lined up. He should be able to give me an estimated turn around time when he gets me the quote.

So you want it just like the one pictured just in (38" wide. 15" deep. 32" tall) dimension? What color are you looking for? Black? The flat gray or "battleship" gray has been very popular lately. Similar color to what the ADA stands are.

"Dark stain" is what my girlfriend would prefer. Black if need be, but ideally something dark brown stain!

Not to high jack thread but looking for a builder as well. Need the following 36" x 15" x 36".
