Anyone in East Cobb have some time to give advice?

I almost have everything I need to start putting together my 40 gallon in wall tank w/ 40 gallon sump.

I am hoping to find someone around the area that might take a look at what I have so far and give advice as to how I should move forward...This is not really about setting up the reef equipment - all that is pretty straight forward; really about how/if I should waterproof the area, plumbing in a water line, and partitioning off the sump...

Not asking you to do any work, just advice.

Thanks in advance.

Ask away I and others are here to help. I can say my next setup will be done with green board or whatever called for water proofing. Sump matter of putting in refugium or what tank is going to be stocked with etc. External pump in sump a lot to look at.

Today I just installed a new 20 amp GFCI breaker in my box and installed a 4 outlet wall box high on the wll near the tank...this week I am going to insulate the wall w/backed r13 (for noise reduction) and put up green board.

My first question is this: how should I "face" the green board...just paint it? I was thinking that I might find some cheap linoleum and put it on the floor under the sump and tank, as well as on the wall around the tank...is this overkill?

Edit: Next question, I have no water source/sink near the tank (it in the basement - water and waste lines are above). I am going to drop a cold water line down near the tank and hook it directly up to the RO/DI system, but have no sink/drain - thinking about waste water going to a bucket with a pump to push it outside. Am I asking for trouble with no sink (at least not for a while)?

1. I'm in east cobb
2. If I were you, I would definitely install a utility sink. You will end up using it for quite a few things, washing your hands being one of them. I have a bathroom in my basement (where my tank is as well) and I use it almost every single time I play with the tank.

Ideally, I would build an acrylic drip tray under the sump and tank, as for the wall around the tank.. I wouldn't worry about it. I have carpet glued to the walls inside my stand to dampen the sound and it's never gotten wet. All of my spills are on the ground, never on the walls.

Post some pics. There are some really smart people here. Good luck with the build. Good job on being proactive and asking for advice and you seem to me moving along well and right.

Thanks for the ideas Crew...I will have to think about the sink, plumbing in a sludge pump and getting a sink aren't really in the budget, but maybe this really is more of a necessity...

By the way, if you do have some time, I would love to meet a fellow member that is close by at some point.

no problem, you can come see my tanks any day. Just send a PM

I'm in E Cobb as well, off Woodlawn @ ****erson Middle School. If you have any question from a construction stand point fire away. I'm a project manager currently sitting on a $30m WWTP expansion... I think of it as a REALLY big filtration system for a tank, lol

Here is a couple pics of the setup so far. Not too much to look at yet, but at least its a start.

I do have a couple questions for now...remember this is a 40 breader display and a 40 breader for sump

1. As you can see from one of the pics, I extended one end of the display drain tube up above the tank, hopefully letting in air to reduce noise and increase flow. Do you think this will work? Should I cap the top of this and drill a small hole in the cap instead?

2. The tank drain plumbing is 1" pvc...I have a mag 5 for the return - will my drain be able to keep up with this flow? I do have a ball valve on the 3/4" return, but I am hoping not to have to throttle it back too much.

3.I installed a 20 amp GFCI breaker that is dedicated to this tank. I am thinking this should be enough, but I am not sure how to do the math to be certain: total equipment planned on being run:
Pumps:
Mag 5
Mag 9.5 (for my skimmer)
Maybe 2 Koralia 750s or 1 1400 (not sure yet) - What do you think?
Lighting:
2x AquaticLife 2 bulb T5 fixtures: 156 Watts
2x 34 watt LED fixtures: 68 Watts
Heater:
2x 300 watt - should I run both of these at the same time?

Thanks

Amps and watts are two different things (kind of). Most/all of your devices listed should say how many amps they will be pulling. Just add it up. For example, your mag 9.5 should be pulling around .37A

Thanks Crew, I will do that, but based on the .37A for a mag 9.5, I am going to bet I will be way under.

By the way, I am off of Johnson Ferry also - Near Post Oak Tritt

Hey Crew, now this is funny... Yea, I'm in Hampton Woods, I'm on Collingham Trace. Small world!
