I am thinking about using this as a cover for my tank.

I like that it is not as "thick" as eggcrate and shouldn't block out as much light. any thoughts?

it would work...ive used it in the past (not for fish)

I was reading some posts on RC...a guy has a quick DIY project on how to make a screen using that. I'm not sure it really needs a thread. You just buy the screen kit and that stuff.

But on that thread was a discussion using the egg crate. Supposedly there are two sides. One side will actually focus the light better, giving more PAR. The downside is that you lose a bit on the sides which is a problem on my nano.

I'm going to go buy the stuff you posted and build a new screen.

Unless someone can prove otherwise, I think eggcrate will decrease PAR, regardless of lighting type. Now if you can find polished aluminum eggcrate...

It was based on a http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic24384-13-1.aspx">thread </a>from Anthony Calfo.

Here's an article in reefkeeping magazine. This guy did [IMG]http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-10/bp/index.php">tests and found it to not be so true</a>.

Anyway, I'm going to do the DIY screen with the material posted above.

even better than that stuff is this netting you can get at a joann fabrics. its very thin cloth, almost threadlike. i used it and a diy screen kit from home depot to do my last cover. it worked great but now i have no jumpers so i've taken it down.
