According to the Neptune site, as of 1-1-2014 the Apex lite has been discontinued. If you were one of the people trying to buy one with your Christmas loot, looks like now is the time to act.

Crazy, wonder if it was because it was so similar to the full Apex or if something now is coming out. I love my Lite, it's perfect for my tank.

Yea I would be curious to see if a new one is coming out or what. I was thinking about getting one but might wait now. Maybe they will go on sale

VP of Sales from APEX States -"The Apex Lite has in fact been discontinued from Neptune Systems. We will, of course continue to support customers of the product as we always do.

For those that were looking to purchase one, some retailers will likely still have limited stock for a few weeks. There is no planned product replacement for the Apex Lite at this time. We will not comment on our reasons for discontinuing this product"

Stupid move if you ask me, it is going to promote RK sales and JR sales. Who has $500 to blow on something you dont have to have?

The Jr sales will likely lead to an eventual Sr sale though. Maybe not that stupid. It's the cheap crack to get you addicted.

I'm guessing they figure most people who were looking at the Lite will still end up buying the full. Having to have one is also subjective. I likely wouldn't still be in the hobby without my Jr. It makes maintaining and controlling the tank much easier especially when travel is involved. I didn't have a lot of time when I started my first tank. Still don't. The Apex makes my life easier. I'll be upgrading from the Jr to the full unit at some point this year. Probably keep the Jr on the BC29 and use the full for the 60 and any eventual other tanks down the road.

I've been debating on getting one for the past 6 months. I still cant decide. It looks like I need to act quickly. I want to be able to prevent disasters and monitor temp and PH. Don't need anything to control lights or much more. Do you think a jr would fit me well?

IMO a Jr is great for a first tank. But, it's limits on expansion modules, which includes the EB8, is a major limiting point. I got the Jr because I wasn't sure if it was worth the money or if I would use it. Hindsight being what it is I would have bought the full from the start.

I have the Jr, an EB8, VDM, WXM, and PM1 w/breakout box. And I can't go any further. I basically have a full Apex plus WXM and it cost me ~500 I think. It's an awesome piece of equipment though.

Look very carefully at what you have and what you plan to buy. I'd go full doing it over again. Planning on being in the hobby long term? Go full. You'll use this for years and years as long as you keep water out of it.

Great advice, looks like I will try to get my hands on a lite.

I think that's the conclusion most end up at.

Yeah. I don't regret the purchase though as it was a great and inexpensive way to find out if a controller was worth the money. And it's still a good controller if you only have one, smaller, tank that you won't eventually want a calcium reactor or a bunch of other goodies. It's awesome on my biocube and quite possibly overkill. The ability to add what I need/wanted over time was nice as well.

I have a 90 gallon and want to try one out. But don't know if it's worth $375-500. I just want a fail safe for my heater, pump, and ato. I would much rather have the lite but just don't know if I can justify the $369. The jr isn't too bad in price but then again it would be nice to control 8 outlets instead of 4

I would go with the Lite, with the Jr your already maxed out basically and there is no room for expansion. IF I had the means, I would buy a Lite for my 90. Maybe in 6months I can find someone selling theirs :)

You can add an EB8 to the Jr so you aren't limited to 4 outlets. But it does count as a module and you're limited to 4 of those. Just keep in mind if you want the Jr to be your ATO too then you'll need to buy a PM1 or 2 and a breakout box to handle the float switches. The Jr is a pretty good value but you have to be well aware of its limitations and be sure you can live within those.

I just got the auqa smart ato and its awesome, thought it would be a bit small for my tank but not at all. I think I may have to go with the jr, even though it is limited all I want is temp ph and a couple pumps to be controlled.
