If I remember correctly, I've seen on here that people strongly</em> recommend Apex over RKE. Definitely want to make the right choice when I buy mine soon, so is Apex the way to go? If so, why? (Definitely love the iPad integration.)

Edit: The iPad integration with the Apex, I mean.

I have an RKE and while it works fine if I had the chance I would replace it with an Apex in a second.

Had a RKE and gave it away. Apex has been keeping an eye on my system for 8 months.

The bottom line is the costumer service for RK sucks and the firmware updates are not fun. The apex works well with apple products and installation is really easy.

Silver Sufer lists a few big reasons why I would switch. RK has no customer service!
With the Apex I can also add modules that can controll my Vortechs and my AI led units.
I cannot controll my RKE from the road and with the Apex being compatable with my Iphone, Ipad, and MacBook that is a big deal because I travel almost every week for work.

RKE great customer service! ! Only way it gets any better is if they gave me one for free. I own 3 of the RKE and 2 of the RKL. Very easy to use. Controlls LED lights very good. I hated my Apex kept it for 2 weeks and gave it away. (Sold it but lost money)

My RKE has been great. I don't use iphone apps, etc and don't use the internet to monitor tank conditions, but for what I use it for, it has worked well for me these last couple years.

RK, typically responds via the forum but to actually speak with one, its quite difficult.

Love my apex. No experience with the RK products. What pushed me towards the apex was the built in remote monitoring AND control. Now I can even program from my iPhone if I want to. Programming can be a challenge but there's a very helpful forum on RC if you don't get an answer here quick enough. My searching lead me to believe that the apex was a superior product and it hasn't done me wrong in the 8 months or so of ownership.

I had an RKL for about 4 months... thought I'd upgrade or add modules, etc, but got on the forums RC, DA and Here and saw I what I needed to know. Went Apex and havent looked back. Best tank investment by FAR.

I have RKE for years now with the net module. My comments:

The free iPhone app works great. That allows you to see all parameters and status. You can also connect through a web browser.

If buying used equipment upgrading firmware can be tricky.

There is PC software that allows you to program the whole thing from your computer making setup much easier than through the console. I would rather see Ethernet connection rather than USB.

Customer support is available through their forum. I have spoke with them on the phone as well but you have leave a message.

The RKE had saved my tank when my chiller went down it shut off my halides and sent me a text.

The RKE runs my lights, chiller, heater, calcium reactor and pumps. I see status of all including pH of tank and reactor through my iPhone.
