Apex Webcam

Just wondering if anyone here uses a webcam with their Apex to view on their dashboard? My wife's asking me what I want for Christmas and thought that could be a fun toy lol If you do what kind do you use? I've never used a remote webcam so I'm not sure how it works, do you have to be connected to an active computer at all times? I'm looking for something pretty small to stick on a book shelf across the room, maybe 8-10ft away, that can be connect wirelessly to a laptop or router or whatever needed to view on the dashboard.

I was told the dropcam would not work with the apex dashboard. I haven't verified this, I just choose to get a standard ip camera to be safe.

Dropcam will NOT work.

Foscam's will work. You will probably need to configure port forwarding on your router. There is something on reefcentral in regards to step by step settings. Best of luck!

While it may not work with the APEX, it'll still allow me to look in on the tank (and the room) while I'm away.

FWIW- We have two in our house for baby monitors. We had to send one of them back 4 times to get one that worked right consistently. Still one of them does not work properly. (They're supposed to automatically switch between night vision and normal mode depending on conditions but we have to manually do it.) We just got tired of sending them back and live with the problem on the one. They're super easy and pretty reliable. (If you get a working one.)
