Okay here we go again,
Has anyone used these API med products as mention in the title? It says that both are safe for marine fish, invertebrates, live corals and anemones. Harmless to bio filters. Remove carbon, turn off protein skimmer and uv sterlizer. 1 teaspoon per 10gals., dose daily for 7 days and then do 25% WC after treatment. What do you think? These are suppose to be all natural products, extracts from tea trees and west indian bay trees. Thanks Mike:huh:

I have a ocellaris clown that was swimming in one stop/fins clamped/breathing fast/not eating. I dipped him earlier in the the melafix in a specimen container for about 45 minutes and just noticed that he is improving and has started acting normal and just wanted to know how safe this dtuff is, IF I have to treat the whole tank or just move the other fish to a QT, which is probably safer. Thanks for asking Dylan.....MIKE

i would qt any sick fish and use it to apply any sort of commercial medication. you don't want to contaminate your tank.

Thanks Jin....I am going to QT just the sick fish...which like I said I dipped him earlier and is improving. Really I was just wondering how safe these products were. Thanks everyone

Melafix is Tea Tree Oil. Not sure what Pimafix is. Oil in the water seems counter-intuitive, an oil slick on the surface will interfere with gas exchange, and lead to other issues.

They're cheap products that make people feel good about "treating" their sick fish. I don't know of anyone that managed a cure of *anything* with it.

An API Sales Rep once told me that expired Melafix, poured down a drain, will make smelly drains smell fresh again. That's the best application I've seen for the stuff.

I know... next time I post I'll try to have an opinion

Hospital tank and proven medicine with an active ingredient(s) known to treat the actual condition(s) you are dealing with, is the best way to a potential cure.

JMO - as always.

Jenn

Thanks Jenn.....I am going to take this stuff back to the LFS and get some of the other product for ich you had mention that would help with the clownfish disease just to have on hand. The other two remaining clowns I have in QT are doing great, eating great and interacting with each other. Thank you again...a worried father of two clownfish....Mike
