So the LFS sold me into a Molly Miller today. I was told they do wonders on aptasia, and since it seemed like ap-x was making the problem worse, I figure, why not?

I originally was going to do 2 pep shrimps, but this guy was the same price. I'm exceeding my fish limit, but the aps are starting to attack my corals, so I have to take a new approach.

Anyone have experience? I'll be sure to share mine as time progresses.

keep us updated on the population of aptasia. i wanna know if this a good solution for my tank. what does the fis eat after the aptasia is gone?

I just recently heard of them as well. Might check with Spike here, he was conducting an expirement with them early this month. Outside of that I can not find one actual account of them doing so.

Edit:

They look like little Lawnmowers with a personality of Barnicle Blenny.

That sure looks like the "seaweed" blennies I was told eat algae. I didn't notice them eating aiptasia or algaes, and they were too aggressive for my tankmates. I'd stay away.

I have been conducting an experiment with 2 separate molly millers. I put a rock which had approx. 6 aiptasia in a small tank with each. Each tank had a molly miller, a couple of clowns, and the aiptasia rock. Three weeks later I still have 5-6 aiptasia on each rock. The Molly Millers like to hang out on the rock and stare at the aiptasia. Boy, if only looks could kill. The ones I have are actually tank bred from Sustainable Aquatics, and are raised on their pellet food. Maybe a wild collected and "hungry" Molly Miller might go for an aiptasia, but from my experiment it is just another old reefers tale. They do have character, and are extremely cute and pretty inexpensive. I have not put mine up for sale yet, but will be approx. $16.00. I wanted to see if they were aiptasia eaters price would have went up.:)

Mine was a sustainable aquatics specimen as well. Mine dug a burrow and has been quiet since.

This isn't in line for aptasia control, but I just wanted to throw this out there...

Awhile ago I was reading on up on GARF about acclimating Freshwater Black Mollies over to salt for algae control ...has anyone here tried it?

What problem did ap-x give you? I have been using it for a while now and it works great. I tried pepermints before and can tell you that they are all just a hit/miss. you either luck out and it goes for the aptasia or you don't and it could care less. (or in most cases the perpermints get eaten by bigger things in the tank)

Sewer-Many have.....Not sure what the point is though being that there are many naturally occurring fish and inverts that will eat your algae. Proper husbandry helps as well. ie wc, lighting, less feeding.

Mollies are such passive fish, they are harassed and tormented by the other tank inhabitants. I had a 6-line that went ballistic when he saw mollies for the first time. He would not rest until they were out of his tank.

I kill one, I get 10 more the next day. The more I attack with ap-x the more I seem to get. If I leave them alone for a week, the pop doesn't grow so much...could be coincidence tho.

Do you turn all your power heads and flow off whenyou use it? I knew some one that didn't and had the same problem. (me)

I had two aptasia and my Melanarus Wrasse pulled both of them off. Do they usually do that?
