Sorry guys, I'm a total rookie at this sho don't laugh too hard. What do you guys think so far as a centerpiece. It's 20 inches high, and that's the actual pallet the tank came on. I'll also need to pull it forward a bit. 20190811_231037.jpg20190811_230907.jpg20190811_230903.jpg

Nice! Can't wait for pics, what substrate did you end up getting?

I plan on going by Nemo's and atalanta aquarium tomorrow. I think I may end up getting the indo Pacific black, it has a nice mixture of white in it and it's not fine.

Thank you for the warning @firethorn77 , that's one thing that did worry me. The family and I are going to pick it out today. The wife said go ahead, no maam this will be a United decision!!!
On a side note, has anyone used jb water weld for their rocks?

Looks fantastic!

One note from a person that also loves arches/caves: when you add sand, you’re going to lose 1-2”. Looking at your scape, that might mean those cool little caves will disappear. In your shoes, I would try to elevate the scape a bit to accommodate so these caves aren’t lost.

Good point.

@Reefchef You can put some epoxy putty in ice trays to create feet, let them harden, then affix those to the bottom of your scape with more epoxy.

Drill the rock and place a fiberglass rod to connect pieces. It will hold up longer and prevent a landslide. Here's pics of mine

Everything is supported with rods in my tank. I can throw all the flow I wanted at it without it caving in.

Looking good!!! I second the rods but I just used acrylic rods I had lying around. Also I used the rods to create feet for the rock work so the rocks doesn't rest on the sand or in the sand itself... except for a few spots in the front. That way you get a lot of flow under the rocks as well.

looks awesome. I second the suggestion of rods. It really helps and allows you to bump the rock when doing maintenance without worry.

Thank you guys four all the great feedback, I'll order some acrylic rods of Amazon tonight. Iill just tru to use tge jb weld for the small pieces on top tgat are too small to drill. Maybe Thursday now!!! this whole proces wil test your patience fir sure!

Trust me, the hours planning are worth it. There will ALWAYS be something you want to change or adjust but evaluating everything before it's in the tank is so much easier than trying to change things once the tank is set up and running. For a scape that tall, the rods are almost required and it's the cheapest insurance against falling rock and broken glass that you'll ever buy.

You can buy fiberglass driveway markers at lowes, homedepot, or Walmart. I've been using them for years with no issues
I had went to lowes and they only had the orange ones near me, and I was too lazy and disgusted to go 5 minutes down the road to home depot. It's all good though, doinbee I had to order a drill bit anyway.

Thank you Justin, I appreciate the motivation. Im actually going with the rods just to be safe, I'm going to use epoxy for some of the smaller top pieces that I can't drill.
