I'm looking to aquascape a bunch of rocks together in a step pattern and then into an arch and I'd like to not cement the whole thing together. I saw on Marco rocks that they suggested nylon rod. I was thinking I could basiclly dowel a few pieces together at a time with the rod and a nut and then be able to remove it someday if need be. I'm not even sure I can get this shape in my tank in one piece anyways!

I saw they have some at Grainger, anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on size/threading etc? Never tried this before. Any tips would be more than welcome!

Gotta get it done this week though, need to make some new places for frags for the extravaganza coming up. I plan on coming home broke and frag laden!

thanks

I used 3/8" acrylic rod. A cheap masonry bit cuts pretty quickly, live rock is pretty soft. If the rock is dry it makes a lot of dust, make sure you rinse well.

Can't help with bolting it together. I doweled mine together with the rod and then packed some reef epoxy into the joints to bond the rocks. I'd be worried about hiding the threaded rod and nuts if you went that route.

I have had good luck using fiberglass rods (driveway way markers) from Home Depot, Large zip ties (electrical department) and hydraulic cement. you can do a search here on the ARC for hydraulic cement and several good threads come up.
Good luck
