so I'm thinking of joining ARC... and there is a 10% discount at sponsors for 1 year.. correct.

With MRC.. is this ONLY on their products (say a calcium reactor) or is it all products? (say a Ca RX and a pump)?

Thanks for the clarification

B. Snow

All the products that the sponsor sells. MRC sells pumps, so the pump should also qualify.

Some sponsors try to mark things on eternal sale, and then say that these items are not eligible. This is frowned upon, but not really policed.

10-4 and membersip is what?? $30 bucks? Is there a membership code u use at checkout, or do u just need to place the order on the phone and mention it?

If you go in the store, you'll have a membership card to show, and it has an expiration date. You get a new one if you renew the next year.

If on the phone, you'll have to mention it (they won't just ask) and they might want your screen name or something to verify it.

And FWIW, the discount is a good incentive to join, but I think even if I didn't have the discount available, I'd still renew when it comes time (just don't tell the sponsors!).

Also please note that some sponsors limit it to certain product lines, for example livestock but not drygoods. If you visit the sponsor's forum, the first post should be a sticky that says "sponsor information". Here you will find address, phone number, and what/how much they discount. I personally try to reward sponsors who offer something on everything they sell by trying them first.

Indeed...some sponsors pick & choose which non-sale items in their store are eligible for the discount and which ones are not. I've been to stores around town, presented my card at checkout, and been told...

...sorry, the discount doesn't apply to Giesseman bulbs.
...sorry, the discount doesn't apply to Elos test kits.
...sorry, the discount doesn't apply to frags.
...sorry, the discount doesn't apply to (insert what it is you came to buy here).

Typically, the potential 10% savings isn't enough to cover the cost of me arguing with the store owner and embarrasing myself in their place of business....but it would be nice to know a 10% discount means a 10% discount.

That being said, I can understand a business not honoring the discount on items that are already on sale for a limited time.

Well said, I try to do the same.

As mentioned before check the sticky at the top of each sponsor forum. Some LFS give a larger than 10% discount.

Such events should be reported to club officers and BOD. Sponsors are REQUIRED to give a discount, save items that have been approved by the BOD. Store operators are not permitted to determine "on the fly". Such issues are taken seriosuly, and if not resolved, can be grounds for a sponsors removal from the club.

I believe only the MRC named products are on discount which is still pretty sweet

Just speaking for myself.

I discount livestock only if it is not on sale.

My dry goods prices are Internet priced. If you google any product I carry, you will see that it is as low or lower than any on google. Matter of fact, I am also on google product search. :) I can't reduce the price an additional 10%.

The only time I don't discount livestock is for example, Buy 2 get 1 sale. You are getting a 33% discount already. :) That beats 10%.

If there is a problem with my structure, then any BoD member can contact me and I will be more than glad to discuss it.

Thanks,
Tim

For ALL sponsors, here is what the bylaws state:

The 10% discount should apply to all dry goods and livestock purchases throughout the year except shipping/handling, box charges, items currently on sale or discount, tanks, stands, canopies/hoods, lighting, and salt. Other items can be exempt from the 10% discount if the Sponsor member gives notice to the Board of Directors.

Thanks,

As far as I'm concerned, Tim could charge 10% more than internet stores and I would still buy from him just because of his dirt cheap salt prices!

Nobody's pointing fingers at anyone. Tim has disclosed to the BOD at the time of his application what would and would not be on discount (as per his sponsor information), therefore has disclosed such information. I was merely making a generalized point. Unless indicated to the BOD (on the application, or otherwise), the sponsors should abide by the rules of the club, and if they are not, the BOD can address it.

As for Tim, I am thinking of making an amendment stating they must shave at least once a year. He's cramping my style!!

I am cleanly shaved for now. I will get tired of shaving in a month and then I will get tired of the beard in a month and shave. :)

Asides, there is no way on the earth, I could have more hair than you! :D

Dont make me start a poll. You have more hair, by weight AND volume, hands down.

I have you on weight for sure, but volume, I mean the size of your head is incalculable. :)

On another note, I found this picture on your face book page.

So you followed him on his backpacking trip to snag this pic?

Fish Scales offers 20% on all items 7 days per week. The only time the discount does not apply is when I am having a blowout sale.
