We started a discussion about 2025 activities / events at the holiday party, so let's continue here. As a club, the frag swap events are the most well attended, so we will host at least two for the year. For the poll - select up to 3 ideas. More detail for each of these options will follow in the thread. There is an "other" category, for ideas that are not listed. If other is selected, please post in the thread for discussion. Others can simply like the post and if it proves popular, through likes, it will be added to the poll for voting. All feedback is welcome and the poll will last for 30 days. Members can change their votes at any time. I'm looking forward to the new year and seeing everyone at a future event!

True Frag Swap with Fragging Workshop and Grow Out Contest - This is a couple of ideas rolled into one. Members would bring corals to swap / give away to other members. ARC would conduct a demonstration of different ways to frag corals, and make available a selection of fragged corals for members to use in a grow out contest.
Member Tank Tour - Just what it says. ARC would rent a bus and tour 3-5 members homes to share their tanks. We would look for ideas to have fun along the way - Reef Bingo anyone?
Aquascaping class - An interactive event where ARC or an expert demonstrates what makes a successful Aquascape with do's and don'ts as well as things to consider in the design phase.
Reef Tank Sponsorship - Elderly Care Home - ARC would donate funds / equipment and time to supply an elderly care home with a Saltwater Fish tank. The major hurdle to this one in my opinion is finding a group of volunteers to maintain the tank.
Hydros Introduction and programming - We have given away a number of starter packs in the last year and with CoralVue's Hydros equipment becoming a popular alternative to Apex, this makes a lot of sense. Could be an in person event or a virtual event with an expert.
Seachem Factory Tour - Seachem is local to the Atlanta Area
Secret Valentine's Day Gift swap - ARC would collect members that wanted participate and assign accordingly? Open to suggestions on this one.
Kid's Coral Art Contest - Something fun for the Future Reefers in our lives.

How about in comparison to the grow out challenge, we do an ARC grow out tank.. where a respectable, reputable volunteer host can manage a tank and each member can bring a frag on a specific date? Let’s say maybe 40 frags to start, whether that be 10 people bringing 4 different frags or 40 bringing 1, at XYZ event and the clock starts ticking.

New adds are at the host’s convenience or done in bulk at events. After 6 months - 1 year or so, frags can be sold or made part of raffles at the events. Host would be allowed to frag to at least restore some expenses for maintaining them. Frag donations to the tank can be made at the host’s discretion, including rejections.

The host could volunteer a tank or we could gather up donations to get it setup, maybe spare/used items, with spare lighting and what not. It can be as fancy as the host wants or as much as the volunteers or donators want to gift to support.

Pics or updates weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. No accusations of foul play or bitterness if something happens to a donator’s coral. No critiquing the host’s methods, lighting, or techniques - hopefully the host would have a demonstrated tank already of what they are capable of and that will be enough..

Just to add, it’s probably a big ask for the person who chooses to manage it, given people’s potential salty-ness, but it would be cool if done right.

For those of us that do not have Frags to bring. What about a event with vendors selling not only corals, but livestock as well i.e. Clean up crews, Berghia Nudis, Pods, Phyto, and maybe fish that need rehoming. Also, i am sure everyone has extra equipment (wave makers, lighting, controllers, auto top off, and other accessories) that we all use. This could also benefit new reefers because then they don't have to go out and buy new expensive equipment they don't need based off BRS or other online "experts" and can buy or swap with other users to get them started.

Sounds more or less like a swap meet. I could be down, especially as one of those people who has no frags, nor any equipment lying around spare just yet.

"I'd gladly pay you Tuuuuuesday for a coral frag today..." 🤣
