ARC November 2018 meeting & FRAG SWAP!!!

What are prices usually like at the frag swaps? Comparable to retail prices or greatly reduced? Does the seller set the price and does any of it go to the club or all to the seller? Thanks!

Prices are pretty reasonable, you will find some great deals. Most of my frags will be anywhere from $10-$75, most well under $40. I have some pics and a list of corals earlier on in this thread.

For the most part sellers set prices and nothing goes to the club. The club set this up fr the members, I am donating a couple of frag packs to the club raffle ($120 value). The club makes money through sponsorship, paid raffles, paid memberships, google advertising and the annual expo held in April/May.

@lizzyann It will vary as everyone sets their own pricing. You'll find though that on balance all the pricing is significantly less than retail. Enough so that I always feel like I'm making off like a bandit when purchasing frags locally from other hobbyists. :)

A couple more questions... I'm fairly new to the hobby and haven't been to a frag swap before. I do have a couple little frags I want to sell, is it ok just to bag them up or put them in tupperware and keep them in a cooler? I assume they should be fine like this for a couple hours since it took much longer to be shipped to me. Also I have a zoa rock I'd like to get rid of, but it does have a lot of algae as well as a sponge and fan worms on it. How frowned upon is this? Thanks!

Yes bring anything you want to sell, in tank, in a bag, in a bowl, in a bucket. This is a good time to empty the closet, there will be a dozen tables or so to sell stuff from. 2 1/2 days to go!!!

I'm a new member and hoping to make the next meeting. Just had a quick question though....are the monthly meetings kid/family friendly??

Yes we are family oriented and the whole family is welcomed. Same goes for the club holiday party next month. We are always focused on developing the next generation of reef hobbyist!

Since I cannot come, I'm hoping some of my office mates can make it (Our tank is an office tank). They are more green than I am, but do oblige them with lots of free stuff for me :).

Hal and I plan on coming! I will bring RBTA's that are in my "For Sale" thread if anyone wants delivery! Holley20181021_130646.jpg

I will bring a medium one for you, $40 is right Vols22. Check out Hal's hat when you meet him! Holley

Thank you Dave, we look forward to seeing you!

Remember to bring a cooler to keep your corals alive, they're live anamials and will be sensitive to body heat and cold air. Their temp 77-82, outside air temp about 55, your hand 98.6. Put your cooler in the car or by the door so you don't forget!

Holly, it will be great to see you again. I suppose you have to bring that rascal with you! ;) Looking forward to seeing you and Hal!
