Arrgh! Totally frustrated

Thanks everyone. I as well will be adding Tech M as a preventive measure. It's crazy how Bryopsis can overtake a tank so fast and cause so much damage. Jcusmarine...sorry about your loss as well. Once I get rid of this cyano, it's back to square 3 and just maintain what I have left. I don't anticipate adding anything to the tank for quite some time.

I have been dosing Tech M since February 10 in order to melt the bryopsis I have in my 72 gallon tank, to this point I have been successful. In addition I have been brushing it off my rock. I know this may be controversial but logic tells me that if the Tech M kills the actual bryopsis on the rock, it should also kill what is in the water column.

Logical deduction. I really just have the cyano for now. I changed the water Friday and today as well as vaccuming the gravel etc. I have the tank covered right now for 24 hours of total darkness. I am "hoping" that this is the last battle and things will get better after this. All the dying bryopsis put waaay too many nutrients back into the tank so the cyano took off without any warning really. It's hard to believe I never had issue one prior to this.

I'm still going with my new experiment that we discussed using the Mangroves etc. I still feel that it will work.

BTW..the weird thing is that I had red macroalgae in the tank when I introduced the frag that had the bryopsis on it (even though I thought I cleaned it off good enough). Sue liked the red macroalgae but I did not. I cleaned it all out and immediately after, the bryopsis took off. Somehow I feel that there is a corallation between the two. It is just too coincidental.

Yeah, I have that too. I think I'm going to change my tank to the propagator of nuisance crap!

Update:

I have performed 3 water changes in 1 week and vaccumed like crazy. I also did lights out twice this past week. The bryopsis is virtually dead. The cyano which fed off of the dying and dead bryopsis is almost (99%) gone. The tank has a normal salt water smell, not that of dead algae. I have introduced within the past month 14 mangroves and a whole lot of cheato. I cross my fingers but I "think" after 2 horrid months, I am almost back to normal. All pars checked very well last night so hopefully the last battle has been fought.

BTW, I am doing some alternative approaches vs. conventional to avoid anything like this from happening again. I will post results in several months.

Another update:

Still have a little hint of cyano but very very minimal. I'm not too concerned about it at this point as it's almost unnoticable.

All parameters are spot on. Sand is white, corals are looking happier, clam is thrilled and there is absolutely no sign of any bryopsis anywhere</em>!
