Hey all! I am booking a trip to Aruba, and very much interested in snorkeling at least, but than I saw this "one day dive lesson". Would this be worth doing or should I stick to snorkeling? Also, does anyone know of good places to go in Aruba to snorkel/dive?

I think you are referring to a resort course. I would go for it, if you have ever wanted to experience SCUBA.

Last year I snorkelled Curacao, Aruba and dove Bonaire.

Bonaire was the best but the other two were great for snorkling. You'll enjoy that relaxed atmosphere. Snorkling is close by the resorts and theres some quality stuff to see.

Doing a resort course is a good idea. At least you'll get to know if you like diving or not. It may lead to other things :-) diving can become addictive.

To get back to your question however, you'll get to see the same stuff snorkling or diving.

We went to Aruba last summer. There are several boat trips available that take you to the best snorkling spots. I saw some of the most awesome fish ever.
It was a great trip, you should have a blast. The boat trips and the party bus were lots of fun.

Definately do the resort course-it's worthwhile if you're interested in scuba.

There are a ton of shipwrecks in Aruba, so you can do some cool ship dives.

When I went, I didn't know much @ what I was looking at, so I can't tell you what I saw. I do know that it was cool and we had a great time.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be staying at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino in Palm Beach. I have always waned to get into scuba diving so I guess I will take the one day class to see if I like it, since nobody has said anything negativ about it!

And don't let them take you deeper than 40 feet.. !!

Also, take that class "certificate" with you and apply to a full OW course.... The resort dive class expires after 6 months....

Better yet, take the class, do the dive.love it.....then come back and take the full class while you are still there!

Have a great time and if you can manage it get them to take you to the Antilla, that is the premier dive there. I love to dive and hope you do too, if all goes well you will wanting a full certification. I think you will especially like the opportunity to look at lots of coral in the wild and the facinating interaction with the fish of the reefs. I spend a great deal of my time diving glued to the small parts of the reef while other people are looking for large pelagics. I hope you find this as fun as I do and think it will enhance your reef keeping hobby. Good luck.

Definitely do the resort scuba. I did one when I was in the keys (ok not as cool a place) but it was totally worth it.

ABSOLUTELY do it. I did a resort course on St Thomas, and it was incredible. I'm planning to do my open water dives in Key West in July to finish up my cert.

If you only end up snorkeling- go to Baby Beach. Its a sheltered cove with AWESOME snorkeling.

I dove the antilla in Aruba. Wicked Current. It was ok Diving, but Curacao and bonaire is alot better.
