I just got a new G3 to stuff into my 40 breeder sump project. What a beast! I have seen some info on this "gate valve mod" but not a lot of details. So if any of you have done it, can you tell me a little about it?

Why...why do this?

How...I cant find a link with any clear photo\'s and instructions.

Parts list. Is there a kit to purchase or is it all DIY?

Will it change the footprint? I was just getting ready to put the final touchs on my sump design and lock in the baffle sizes...but thought I would check in to this a little further.

Thanks for the advice!

You do it so you can more precisely control the bubbles in the chamber.

On my skimmer there is a piece of PVC that comes out of the base and you simply affix a pvc gate valve onto it.

It changed the footprint of my skimmer by the width of the gate valve so that if front to back was 9" before the valve it is now 11"

Hmm. Honestly...how big a deal is that? Again this is all new to me. Is it worth the trouble? How hard is it to control the bubbles as is?
Thanks!

I post the mod there. My wording me a bit off as I was typing in english and thinking in Vietnam.

BTW I GOT Enkamsh that you can use to mashmod.

Agree with the last post eliminating the sponge and making it silent is the bigger deal. Once adjusted you won't need to adjust again so I never really saw a huge need. I did it on one I had and not on the other. I'm agnostic to which I prefer.
