im thinking of getting a JBJ ATO or one from autotopoff.com

i have a 40 breeder 20g sump
what should i get, what size supply pump do i need

i know nothing about these so any advise is appreciated

I've had both and I like the JBJ better. Not that the autotopoff.com unit is a bad unit...it's not. The JBJ just seemed easier to use. I use a small fountain pump to run mine. Most people use a Tom's Aqualifter though. The Aqualifter is just to slow to do any good in my sump. The JBJ will time out on a lower volume pump however that is adjustable.

what are the specs on your fountain pump

really?? the aqualifter pumps 3-4 gallons per hour... I know your sump doesn't evaporate at that rate..

my plans (although I don't have it setup yet) is to put a container in that will hold 30 or so gallons and just have the aqualifter come on for 10 minutes a day.. (with a sensor that will stop everything if it's too high)

It doesn't evaporate at that rate but the JBJ comes on at one level and cuts off at another. It's set for about 2 gallons. That means the JBJ times out before it can put 2 gallons back in.

I think my fountain pump is around 50 gph or so. As stated above, a MJ works well too. I have an MJ connected to a autotopoff.com unit on a 2nd tank.
