I would like to know what your Idol's favorite foods are.

I picked one up that was very healthy and Eatin live brine. It's been at my house since Monday, and has acclimated well. So far, he is only eating little bits of algae, an acan, and TLF veggie flakes.

He ignores PE mysis.

Any suggestions? I am thinking about giving Rod's food a shot. We just started carrying it at the Aviarium.

Mine ate everything under the sun, pellets, pe mysis, rods, etc as well as all my LPS so just keep sampling. As long as hes eating, you ll be fine regardless. Just pay attention to his streamer length as that will reflect his healthy and be aware most of them are very aggressive as well.

Also, where did you pick him up at if you dont mind me asking?

Thanks for the advice! I'll continue to offer him a variety. I imagine that he will come around and accept more foods.

I'll send you a pm about where I got him.

Dylan, what type of tang is that at 11 seconds right in front of the idol?

That's my chocolate tang. He's such an under rated fish.

I think this is the first time I've ever shown anything of the 210. It's somewhat just thrown together.

Well that problem is solved....

They are Cortez rays! I have a trio(two females and a male). They are babies for now, and I'll have a pool for them when the time to move out of the 210 comes.

He was hungry!!! Man, don't you ever feed your fish????? lol

Love stock list (or what we could see of it).

3 Sting Rays!!!! because 1 is never enough.... LOL.. beautiful fish... what kind of skimmer are you running??? couldn't tell if you had much SPS in there...

Edit: that video just convinced me to move a Powder Brown Tang way up to the top of my list of fish for my 120... thx Ripped..

Hey Dylan. is the Moorish picking at any of your coral in there? I'd love to have one but don't want to lose the little coral I have.

From my experience with them over the past 4 years, there are almost none that wont pick at coral....so if you got one that eats and doesnt nip, hold onto him

Why would I want 1 when I could have 3??? Lol I tend to go overboard.

That tank has some sps, but not much. It's my rehab tank. The 210 was never intended to be a reef, and I used to run copper in there. Actually, there was copper in there only 1 month prior to adding the first coral. But that is another story...

do you have to do heavy skimming with that bioload???

Gsp and an acan. If he picks on a lot, I guess I'll have to buy another tank :)

Edit:

Not really. I am somewhat ashamed of the filtration. Remember those old wet/dry filters that have a built in skimmer? Yep that's what that tank has running it. I guess the slimmer is effective, it pulls a lot out.

I agree. They are a fish that seems to always turn to coralivores. But, I wouldnt say picking. I would say chewing.

If there is a chance of copper coming out, dont house the rays in there. Copper does to elasmobranchs what it does to inverts.

I was very timid with adding the rays. One of these days I'll do a write up of how I removed the copper. It's been housing the rays and corals for about 5months. So far so good.

Edit: If he only ate corals, I guess I would be buying a lot of corals to feed him. If/when we cross that bridge, I hope he likes cheap stuff!

That's incredible, really! Just take it slow.....er, lol...:-)

Amici;778222 wrote: Those rays are awesome! Please do tell how you got the copper out, I have a 58g that I think has had copper in it before and have only used it for FW because of it.

I have only seen a handful of moorish but a few seemed to like pellets for some reason. I know one guy said he bought LPS feeding pellets to feed them since they liked LPS so much.

I'll send you a pm about the coppero. Since it isn't a tried and true practice, I would hate for someone to read it on a public forum, attempt it, and have bad results.

The Lps pellet thing makes sense!

I know the answer to this but I am going to ask it anyway. LOL There is no ray that would do well in a standard 125 reef tank is there? Or, maybe a better question would be in a tank maintained by a beginner?

I would not reccommend keeping rays in any reef tank! No shrimp, no small gobies, no sand dwellers, etc.

When I first got the rays, I had a little spotcinctus clown that slept in the sand. One night, one of them ate his tail off. I moved him out and he recovered, but I felt pretty terrible. They don't bother the sand dwelling wrasses, but every now and then they dig up a coris before it's wake up time.

As far as ease of keeping them, they are very easy!

You just want to make sure you can accommodate the larger size, and avoid putting them with fish like Angels, butterflies, triggers, puffers, and lions.
